Default 2003 Tiburon Power

Is the new Tiburon GT underpowered?
I'd say so! 180 horses can't do nothin' compared to the engines in other cars in the class.
Has anyone seen the torque curve for the engine?
There is an odd dip of 45 lb-ft of torque that happens @4000 RPM.
No good
I love the tiburon,,, but if the people at Hyundai don't put a mighty engine in that car it will remain a "looker"!

Alot of the problems in the V6 are related to the restrictive intake it has. The V6 uses the same airbox and intake that the I4 uses. The V6 has a 76mm maf, but only a 50mm tb. It uses the same air filter element that all the Beta i4 engines use.

Installing a CAI will do wonders to wake up your engine. The highest figure I have seen is 16 HP to the wheels gained from just a CAI on the V6 Delta, but I would say 10-12hp to the wheels would be more common/realistic.

The exhaust on the V6 is also not very good. Especially the "h" pipe where the exhaust splits 1 pipe into 2. (If you look at the split, it looks like a lower case "h") A good "Y" split and some less restrictive mufflers would go a long way towards helping the engine breath.

Not to mention the fact that no doubt you got the European spec Delta 2.7L with large amounts for torque and low HP. It is a bit sluggish from what I hear, but as mentioned by Random, the above mods would do wonders. Even more then I think we would expect with the European spec cause theres gotta me more to it.

Hey Random,
Is their a restriction on the intake runners? Or are they ok size wise? I was thinking that if their was a way, 76 mm from Filter to engine would be perfect! Is that possible? smile.gif

Please edit your posts rather than double posting.

The Intake Manifold Plenum on the V6 is rather small. I'm going to give Hyundai the benefit of the doubt here and assume they engineered it small to reduce weight, and to keep air velocity up.

From eyeballing it with the TB attached, there is just no way you can get the TB and IM bored to 76mm. The Stock TB is 50mm, and can maybe go to 60mm or 65mm, but no way can it reach 76mm. The intake manifold plenum is the same size as the TB, so again, 60mm or 65mm MIGHT be doable, but no way you could get it 76mm.

Once I get a chance to really rip a Delta apart, I'll post up more photos and observations.
