06 2.7 v6
I was wondering what anyone can tell me in relation to this motor. I know it's got 172 hp according to factory specs I found. I imagine thats at the motor and not the wheels. I've seen talk of beta and beta 2 motors but not sure what it means. I've had my car since Feb 2010. Any info I can get to better understand what I have and the potential of it would be great

beta is the 4 banger 1.8/2.0 motors put into the tib/elantra from 1996-2006
thoughout the years there were different variations hence the beta 1 and 2
what were you wanting to know about your motor

ok that explains the beta thing. as for the v6 can the be turbo'd without havein to do major motor work? I'm kinda new to all this with smaller engines. I grew up around old school american muscle. This is the newest car I have ever owned. Not sure what I can do with it without having to mod the ecu or do a complete motor rebuild.

You can safely toss like 6 lbs of boost at a unopened Delta you v6 with no issues. Just have to find what you want to run for engine management as far as timing and fuel!

turbo will require ecu mods, which can fail you emissions wise
motor can be turboed, not very cheaply nor very easily but if you plan on keeping this car STOCK for a while while you research it can be done. i have a grocery list posted that will give you a basic idea of what it takes. BUY QUALITY if you plan on turboing or youll hurt

I have no intention of just jumping into anything. the Most I may do while I'll look into thing is to put on a CAI. Last thing I want to do is blow up the motor. On a good note my car doesn't have to go through emissions testing so I don't have to worry about failing it.

Your best bet is to start off with a good intake, set of headers, and cat back exhaust. If you want to go more...we can help. Most of the V6 owners generally dont turbo their car...they go with a supercharger instead.

V6 owners go with a supercharger because its always been ready in a box. But it'll cost a bit more than a diy turbo and not get you as much easy power as a turbo imo.
If you know how to build it and can fab a few pipes, then a turbo can be super cheap for the v6. It can also be done in small steps, so you can add to it when you get the money.
First, Y off the stock headers to a turbo mounted in the stock battery location. Then run pipes to your intake, and the exhaust back. Tap your oil feed and return. Run 3psi on the factory ecu. That should cost you less than $1k.
When you get more money, add an ecu like the AEM FIC. That's another $300, and will allow up to around 5-6psi non intercooled.
Then, build a good intercooler system for about $500.
I have intake, headers, and exhaust. While it got me 30whp, I still get waxed by too many cars. Its just a little sporty daily driver. A turbo, even a basic kit, will definately change things.
