The stronger main crank journals would be a 100% custom part. I would guess somewhere between $500 and $1000 for the set.
The stronger crank would also have to be custom, and would be between $1500 and $4000 depending on who you have make it, and what materials/process they use.
Then there is the issues of the rods and pistions. No one really knows how strong they are, so replaceing them would be a wise investment considering the other 2 costs above. So add $1500-$2000 for the pistions and rods.
The block could be cryo treated for about $500. That's not saying it will solve the problem of the block cracking or flexing, but it will "help"
No one knows how strong the axles are on the V6's either...so new axles would be about $600.
I'm assuming the clutch would have to be upgraded, so figure $500 for an upgraded clutch.
Now...add in about $2000 to assemble all of this unless you can do it yourself...and you have just sunk close to $7000 in a motor that is still making stock HP...but has the ABILITY to make more.
Now add about $6000 for a turbocharger kit...and another $2000 to install and tune that...and you are looking at adding $15,000 to the cost of the car...and it still is on bone stock wheels...tires...suspension...etc..etc..etc..
None of the above upgrades are guarantee's. They are just suggestions. As no one has gone down this road, there no proof that this is going to give you a reliable 300 Wheel HP, or even 250 Wheel HP. The 6 speed tranny gears could be weak...or the motor/tranny mounts. There are a hundred other things that could still break after the above upgrades and turn all your hard work and money into scrap.
$20,000 for the car, and 15,000 for the work ==$35,000. There are many other cars out there that will be easier to tune, and cheaper that will give better performance. Also...the I4 beta would be cheaper and easier to tune, and give better performance.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Stocker:
That's why you get the 4cyl if you want to make power. Sounds perverse, don't it?</div>Not really. The stock v6 has been dyno'ing in at around 150 to the wheels. a 50 or 60 HP bump to 200 or 210 to the wheels should be safe and doable, and you'll still have the better torque of the V6, plus the 6 speed tranny.
The I4 is only better if you want to go over say 225 or 250...then the Beta motor is the way to go.

Hellyeah I'll trade...if you pay to have the thing installed in my 00 elantra!
still, 200 ponies is nothing to sniff at. try it before you decide you don't love your new engine as much.
Random. That's what I said: POWER. Perhaps I should have been more clear. not power, **POWER**. for a daily driver street car, most folks will be happier with the v6 I would think.

do underdrive pulleys put any extra strain on the crank? i don't know anything about them. also, what difference do they make in performance.</div>Don't hijack thread. Start your own on a seperate subject. BTW...this was sort of answered here.
