Hyundai Sonata Forum The Hyundai Sonata Forum. The Sonata (around since 1989) and Hyundai XG300/XG350 (new for 2002) pickup the near-luxury segment for Hyundai. Find out where to get all the luxuries Korea is holding back on (HID, navigation systems, etc.) and how to tune your Hyundai Sonata, Azera, or XG for performance.

Do the Sonatas use the same auto tranny as the V6 GK or Azura?

Don't know for the Azura, but it's unlikely they use the same transmission as the Genesis sedan since that vehicle is RWD which means it would need to mount differently.

Edit: Looks like they have different part numbers so no.

He's referring to the GK tiburon, not the genesis.

I believe they are the same drivetrain, so yes.

Not sure about the azura

My apologizes, thought he was referring to the Genesis and YF Sonata. Still in the Genesis only mindset, need to work out of that haha.

The Azura shares the same engine (The 3.3 lamba) with the Tiburon right? If so probably is the same trans.

Nope. Tib never got the lamda and that sonata never saw it either. Some of them had the delta V6, same motor as the tib. If its the 4 cyl.. it might be easier to cross ref with a mitz since that body style sonata's 2.4 was not the theta.
