Default Can Anybody tell me about the 2.4L?

Does anybody out there know about the 2.4L engine in the Santa Fe. How much HP can it get up to? How much will the Trans hold? Is it anything like the 2.0L or Turbo setup?

I was thinking that my next Car will be the Santa Fe. I have been reading that the 6cyl from hyundai is not all that good with performance parts. I wanted to see if the 2.4L is better.

the 2.4L is a SOHC engine. It is also NOT a "beta" engine.

I don't know of anyone in the USA who has tuned the 2.4L. Or Korea either for that matter. Cheuk would know more there than I would.

I do know that Cams and other engine parts for the 2.4L are available from RPW. SR will soon be carring RPW parts on their website. (Cams, larger TB's...etc.)

I belive that the 2.4 is rated at 150HP. That is Hyundai's spec on that motor.

The 2.4L is a Delta series, and guessing from the REST of the Delta series it's not worth a lot. I don't honestly know tho, I think they're rated at either 150 or 155... But it was basically offered only in the Santa Fe 4-banger and the Sonata 4-banger, so finding "performance" parts for it is gonna be tough.

I still cannot see why everyone is in such a hurry to get rid of the BETA 2.0L engines. Hello? Yes it has less displacement than the V6, but it can deal with a WHOLE LOT more abuse without even flinching.

The Koreans have the absolute most experience with these cars and these engines -- do you think it's coincidence that they ALWAYS go back to the BETA 2.0L engine when they want to make severe-duty horsepower? They swap those BETA 2.0's into Sonatas, Accents, everything.

Whatever floats yer boat, but guessing from the rest of the background, the performance benefit is going to be FAR outweighed by the sheer cost involved. Both in mounting it to the car, mounting it to the tranny, making it strong enough to deal with power AND actually making it create more power.

Why make things so difficult?

i was just curious since my car will need a new engine sometime soon, due to the dam nitrous incident, even though my compression has been constant
but 210 180 185 210 is not something i like

I also was curious about this engine. The 2.4L (149hp) is a DOHC, it says right on the website. It seems like a more ideal engine to use since you get the 9 extra hp out of it. I know my Cav Z24 had a 2.4L, and it ripped.

I didn't see why they didn't offer it in a special edition Tib. The real reason why Hyundai puts the 2.0L betas in the Tibs is because of the WRC regulations state the engine displacement cannot exceed 2.0L.

I think the 2.0L should have been the base engine, and the 2.4L the upgrade. There is no reason why it couldn't handle bolt on parts. Who knows...anyone else have thoughts?

The BETA (1.6, 1.8, 2.0) is an entirely different platform than the DELTA (2.4, 2.5, 2.7) The engine mount points are not the same, the transmission mount points aren't the same, the input spline count and shaft size aren't the same either. They just aren't mix-n-match drop and go sort of things.

The DELTA series of engines are NOT made to be tough, they are made for smoothness and dinking around town. The BETA wasn't made for smoothness, it was made to be bulletproof -- perhaps because of the WRC use?

It doesn't matter. The 2.4L isn't a worthy upgrade, the 2.7L probably is. But if you're wanting to upgrade to serious power, the BETA needs to stay in the car.
