Talking Elantra 1998 J2- Engine Ideas?

bowdown.gif Hi Guys- Im Francois and i live in Sunny South Africa

My ride is a 1998 Elantra 1.6GL J2

Firtsly i would like to Ask what the hell is the Engine code for it? I presume it to be the Beta 1 engine?
Secondly i want to Do a engine swop...Was Thinking of the 2.0 Elantra engine...but want to know are ther Better options out there that could be used? and if so which engines and how much work is involved i would love to ideally have a 500kw monster with a Transmission that would be able to handle the Torque......at the end of the day but i need some steering in the RIGHT direction....

If you post a picture we can probably identify whether it's a Beta I or an Alpha.

The 2.0l Beta I is a good swap for you. It's the only one that'll be easy that has potential. If you want to throw money at it a Theta or a Lambda V6 would be fun but way more trouble than they're worth IMO since the 2.0l Beta has good potential.

A Sonata with the 2.4l Sirius engine probably has the strongest transmission that'll easily bolt to a Beta.

It's a 1.6L Beta1. The Elantra never had an Alpha motor, even overseas. I'd swap a 2.0L.

Hi Francois

Did you get this to work. I hear the ECU could be a problem
