Beta swap queries
Hi all,
I have a couple of questions about the G4GF Beta motor. Does anyone know of or have possibly found an electric water pump for this engine. I am curious to know if there is one.
Also, is it worth going from power steering to non power steering using a manual rack? The idea is to minimise the amount of belts on the motor if at all possible.
i want to do a Beta I swap into a ‘97-‘00 X3 Excel. Plans are as follows;
G4GF 2.0L
1.8L intake cam,
2.25”-2.5” exhaust,
AC delete,
PS delete (maybe?)
Custom engine bracket/mount.
Lantra brakes/wheels,
Lantra ECU,
Lantra Clutch
J2 or XD gearbox.
any help would be great.
thank you

I have never seen an electric water pump specifically for the Beta, you would probably have to modify one to work on your motor. I don't think it would be worth the effort.
I've had power steering deleted (looped lines) on my J2 for the last 8 years. It's really not that tough to turn at all. The manual rack will be even easier, however, do you know the steering ratio lock to lock on the manual and power rack? I know manual racks typically have more turns lock to lock. It could potentially be a real turn off having a nice fun, light car with real slow ass steering.
When the steering box went out on my S10 I looked into swapping to a manual box and it was something like 8 turns side to side up from 4.5 for the power steering box. I said F that.
The parts list you've got there looks good.

Okay well thank you for your response to my questions. I didn’t actually think about the lock to lock thing as well as my other queries. The parts list is a basic idea of what I have in mind. I have thought about adding a turbo tot his set up but I’ll see how I feel if is we do this build (currently unemployed so no finances).
Also, with headers, would ones like Hurricane(?) headers for a Lantra/Tiburon work in a Beta swapped Excel? (pic of said headers)

Im trying to get as much help/info/advice as I can as keeping things simple would help me majorly. I still haven’t figured out axles yet (I know the Beta/alpha combo but I want full beta trim). Also, if you know. Is it possible to put say GC8 WRX bucket seats (needing to modify things of course) in to as Excel? Kind of like the idea of bucket seats. Being in Australia (having shitty modifying laws) I’d look at getting it engineered with said work done as I want a neat little street car.
Thanks again for the help.
