Default 6 spd trany swap

I got a 2001 Tibby and im lookin at throwin in a 6 spd transmission in it.. its alraedy 5 speed but i would love that 6th gear ; )... i was thinking the new 2003 tibbys have 6 speed trannys.. what do you guys think about buying one new and swapping it with my 5 spd... will it work... i mean mounts and all ? .. im also gonna do lightweight flywheel and street strip clutch once i do the swap.. might as well no? ....
what you guys thikn about the swap.. will it work or which 6 speed tranny should i go with?? how much will it run me ?

Per hyundai the 6-speed tranny only mounts up to the V6.

With enough money and skill, you could make it work though. How much do you want to invest trying?

sorry bout the multiple posts... i just relised id get better response this way.. didnt think before i wrot the other one..lol..

hmm... cash.. i dunno few grand i guess... i want somethin that works easy tho... i dont wanna have to take the v6 tranny then and mod it so it fits and all.. uh uh... what about the celica 6 pd tranny ?

celica tranny would be an even tougher fit, my ? 2 u is is it really worth it for the 6 spd? i mean it mite be better to get the new tib, or drop in the engine/tranny combo

HVE has a close ratio Tiburon gearbox, but that is meant for racing, not freeway driving. You'd probably top out at 120.

I agree, I always feel like the RPMS are too high in 5th gear doing 75 down the interstate. I WANT a 6th gear, but there is just no cheap easy way to do it.

If the 6-speed swap is possible, I'm sure the Guys at HVE or RPW or the guys in Korea will do it before too long, and we can get details from that as to how we can do it. Unless you wanna pay some shop like $2000 to $3000 in labor...
