4g63 swap
I know the popular swap for 1st gen elantras is the 4g63 engine. Is there really that much of a big difference between the 1st gen and 2nd gen engine bay that makes it a major pain in the ass and not worth the effort to drop in a 4g63 in a 2nd gen?

Yes there is. It would be the same thing as swapping a 4G into and RD.

The first gen (J1) already used a Mitsubishi engine, so it was a simple swap. The second gen (J2) was using Hyundai Beta engines, so it would be way more work because there are major differences.

i think the wiring was mostly plug an play for the 1st gen and you would have a TON of work to do to plop it in a 2nd gen and get it running

I know this thread is old but want to clear the air a bit, the 1g 4g63t amd the 2gs are similar but not 100% the same. Can you put a 4g63 from a 2g in the elantra yes, but you need 1g motor mounts. Now not sure if your talking about 1g 0r 2g elantras? but I'll just say this, if you have skills at fab work, you can do anything your heart desires but if not, it's best to play it safe
