1996 X3 beta swap
I havee a 1996 accent gl and plan to swap in a 2.0l beta from 99 tib but i need to ask some questions:
1) Do i need to change the wirring harness at all? or will current stock sohc 1.5l harrness work?
2) If i keep the stock harrness wht is the best step Piggy back 1.5l ECU or jst get Tib ECU?
3) Motor mounts and mods to thm? can i keep stock mounts with some minor mods?
I only asked becuse from wht I have read the 96 isnt as easy as 98-99 x3 with all the above questions, but from what i can gather Im gonna need a:
trans-96 Accent GL 5spd (factory accent axles)
95 scoupe turbo clutch kit
accent release bearing
tibb flywheel
tibb trans mount
1999 Tibb 2.0l
Basic swap parts ie, belts, waterpump ect
Mods:
obx underdrive pulley
header
cam gears

You may need to get a 97-99 X3 transmission. The 95-96 Accents mounts are on the motor and not the trans. I have done a 96 but I used a beta trans and fabbed the front/rear mounts.
Thanks for the info, were you able to keep the stock 1.5 sohc harness? if not what did u modify? metal can always be cut and welded its the electrical tht is something thts goona be a pain. Thanks again the more info the better
Wow thanks man your a life saver!!! If you have any suggestions please post thm, I used to be a honda guy so I have some custom experience but got tierd of driving a bellybutton!! lol Its time for a newbie accent tht smokes hondas.
Any kinda of tips are appreciated thanks everyone
The only thing that I can remember at the moment is if you do happen to use the use beta transmission the axles will have to be changed. I used a set from an automatic 00-05 Accent, they'll fit and are a bit tight but didn't click on turns. Also you may want to consider modifying the front and rear mounts. I seemed to kill mine regularly. I ended up welding them solid but this caused a lot of vibrations in the cockpit. Some window weld may have been a better option.
I used a Megasquirt but the stock beta ecu ran it just fine. I couldn't tell you about the cost or the time because it was something I worked on every now and then. If you have the parts and tools it should be an easy weekend job.
