Default Why Do Import Exhaust Systems cost so Much $$$?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm coming from the domestic world where I can get dual exhaust with mufflers from manifold back to Polished/Chrome tips for under $400 (Stainless piping) but a decent catback for any newer car (Imports) will cost you $500+ for about a 3rd of the piping? I understand engineering costs and all that stuff, but after a few years you would think they would come down on the prices. There must be an astronomical markup on these. any thoughts? And what exhaust system are your Gen Coupe owners using?

you said it well here "There must be an astronomical markup on these"

especially when there is a monopoly in the market, they jack up the price even more. Look at all the IC kits for the gen coupe and show me one of them that is worth the 1000$ that they are charging.. also usually has to do with when cars are really new and they can take advantage with their markups.

HAHA!!! $500?! The Genesis doesn't have exhausts that low anywhere, catback, axleback, or anything. I think $700 MIGHT have been the lowest I saw, but that might have been a group buy or promotional thing. Most are around $1,000.

absolutely ridiculous.

from importshark.com: (+ $100s/h)

ARK dual exhaust 2.0T - $1,199

GReddy dual muffler v6) - $1400

Injen dual exhaust 2.0T - $925

Magnaflow dual exhaust 2.0T - $886

ARK single exit exhaust 2.0T - $825

GReddy single muffler Ti-C - $825

Jun B L axleback exhaust - $1,250!!!

For this:

You get charged the price most of your peers will pay. If it's too high, get a welder and DIY.

it's unbelievable what the prices are for some of this crap.

Exhausts for $1,000?

a PLASTIC grill with fitment problems for $200-250?

$400 for a pair of LED taillights, only to find out that many have leaks when it rains. Now the price is reduced to $299 without a warranty. Buyer beware!

$400 for a SHORT RAM INTAKE!!!!

that is insane... especially since its for a hyundai, not a lexus or bmw.... and considering the products are somewhat defective it sounds.

lol. I run summit circle track mufflers on my cars. They cost $20 and the car sounds great.

Even the optional short ram for the MCs run about half that last I checked

For exhaust I just find a shop willing to bend the tubes and weld on what ever aftermarket muffler I buy.

Thus far it's been less expensive and looked folds better.

Hmm...I might have to start making Gen Coupe parts in my spare time.

for the GC exhaust, you're paying for the mufflers, the "burnt tip" look, and good fitment. They've been having problems it seems trying to get the exhaust pipes to line up and be the perfect length on both sides.

If you want it to look pretty, be able to bolt it on in your garage, and have dyno results before buying, spend $1,200.

If you want something that's functional and works, go local and spend 1/4 of the price

What worries me is sound. The GC already has a loud exhaust so I don't care for it to be any louder or have a change in tone, just less restrictive.
