Hyundai Will Discontinued 2.0 Turbo Engine on the MY2015 Genesis Coupe

If you are a KDM lover, I’m sure most of you guys are waiting for the new generation of the Genesis Coupe. Hyundai already has the Genesis sedan up for sale so its only matter of time until we start seen more of the coupe.

Unfortunately our spyshot expert haven’t hunt one just yet, seems like Hyundai is hiding it very well but today we have receive some tips from an anonymous follower.

On the following picture, we see that apparently Hyundai Motor America is planning to discontinue the 2.0 Turbo engine for the 2015MY Genesis Coupe removing their Base, R-spec and Premium range models.

Also they are discontinuing the 3.8 V6 GDi Grand Touring trim but at the same time adding a new trim level for the base model with 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission, also adding LED daytime running lights on the R-spec and brown leather interior on the Ultimate trim as an option.

So what does that mean? Well for one this mean they are getting ready for production on the new Genesis Coupe and more info will start arriving in the near future, and that’s good news for all of us.

This could also mean they are trying to save all those 2.0 TCi engines for the new generation or maybe they are planning to discontinue the 2.0 engine. Will the 3.8 V6 engine replace the 2.0 Turbo engine? Are we finally going to see the 5.0 V8 GDi on the Genesis Coupe?

Food for thoughts guys, let us know what you think and expect from this new generation of the Genesis Coupe.

Thank you anonymous!

I don't understand why Hyundai would drop the 2.0T, especially for MY2015. With the Mustang coming out with a 4 cylinder turbo, and the BRZ/FRS now on the market, dropping the turbo is going to make people look elsewhere rather than at the more expensive V6.

That's the point. They want to make it a higher price point.

I suspect they'll put more attention on the Veloster Turbo for performance and a closer FR-S competitor.
