Default Limp Mode

What exactly is limp mode on a genesis? I've heard this term before and Im not sure what it is. What causes it and is it something that can be fixed easily?

limp mode is when you/the car mess something up and the ecu sets it up to just limp home in a attempt to reduce further damage

On the coupe 2L it is usually caused by a low rpm over boost condition. It sets some sort of ROM fault code. It happens when you use the cruise and forget to down shift or when going up a large incline.

Limp mode is when you notice that car doesnt boost "pull" as hard as it did. The cars on board computer "ecu" got too hot and or notice you've been pushing too damn hard on the car that the ecu protects you from blowing sh*t up for a good 15mins so that the ecu and turbo cools down.

On the coupe it limits the throttle opening.

Is there a light that comes on the dash if you go into that mode so you know your car is hurting?

You will know. Fortunately all you need to do is restart the motor. But there will be a code stored.
