So if I'm the owner of a Mall and one of the stores is selling fake rolexes and prada bags as "authentic" and a customer complains to me that they're selling sh*tty/fake products, I think I have a right to further investigate it. If I had knowledge of this and I'm -still- accepting rent money from this fraudulent merchant then I can also be held liable for it. If I tell that customer "f*ck off! didn't you see the complaints people wrote in the bathroom stalls about that merchant?!?! You should know better! It's your fault!" ...that just seems a bit dick-ish. Sure, things have gotten better with the Feedback Thread, but there needs to be a feedback rating system much like eBay. There's a reason why *I* added IS to resellerratings.com. Personally, I've had great experiences with Mike, but others...not so much. It's almost useless to just post something negative in a forum. Hoping that someone types in the correct search term and the OP didn't make a typo. Especially when that vendor provides products for other cars. At least with resellerratings, it is a central location. Oh and btw, IS is sitting at a pretty 0.01/10

Vendors should be properly vetted before you start accepting cash from them. From an ethical standpoint and a liability standpoint.

I just want to clarify that I in no way was accusing CrookedH of being "dick-ish", only the statement of "BLAME YOURSELF!" seems that way. I in no way think CrookedH is "dick-ish" nor a dick, nor resembles anything of a phallic nature. Nor does his significant other, family members, dog, Swedish midgets living in his basement, etc.
...just wanted to clear the air with that disclaimer.
There are essentially 2 vendors on that site that people continually complain about, SFR and IS. I've had dealings with both of them and have never had anything bad to say except how they handle complaints and/or have acted unprofessionally to members. With all the posts about problems with them you would think people would not risk doing business, but they still do. If there is enough info out about problems and people continue to buy from them, why is that a forums mod/admin/owners fault? The info is there so if people decide to ignore it and have problems, it's their own damn faults. Which means they need to man up and not whine like little babies.
IMO, the members are, for the most part, attempting to protect others in the community from experiencing the same shady business. Sure, they could definitely take a better approach, but sometimes emotions take control.

If IS was making fake Sequence badges and sticking them on knock off parts, then yeah, it'd be unethical and illegal, but he's not. He's makin knock off parts and selling them as "Vega type" and "Sequence Type #". Unfortunately that practice runs rampant in the aftermarket scene and has become "normal". I agree IS has some questionable marketing and business practices but nothing he's doing is illegal. It's common knowledge that IS sells real and knock off parts. It's been posted in countless threads.
To be perfectly honest I don't know all the "behind the scenes" stuff SFR has supposedly done wrong but if you look at how many people have good dealings with them they're obviously not all bad. SFR was also put on a temp ban when he got into it with a few of the west coast guys so the vendors are not immune. I will say that Quartemaster pushed a bit too far by making racist durogatory remarks against asians when trying to provoke Jay, which is about as bad as anything IS or SFR has done, whether he meant it or not, it was 100% wrong.
This is where the problem arises. As you said, there is a continuous flow of new members asking the same question, "How do I make my car fast!?" or "I want to turbo my V6, tell me how!" --- these members aren't aware of the history with some vendors, and if members are suppressed from voicing their frustrations and problems, it only makes it harder for new members to become aware of the bad experiences. A new member may join, see 20 threads bumped by a vendor and think, "Oh, they have a lot of parts! I'll buy from them!"
IMO, the members are, for the most part, attempting to protect others in the community from experiencing the same shady business. Sure, they could definitely take a better approach, but sometimes emotions take control.

Again, that goes back to the person not doing their homework. I come from the world of "look out for yourself" and not "let others look out for me" so when someone doesn't do their homework and gets "ripped off" it's their own fault. If the vendors in question did anything against the law I'm sure they'd be kicked off the site. As I mentioned before the vendors are not as protected as some of the people on this forum make it seem like. I've ragged on Elite and CP-E constantly but I never do it in a childish manner so NONE of my posts about them have been edited or deleted.
Are there ways to improve GenCoupe.com? You betcha. Are the people on this forum being blatantly disrepectful to fellow Hyundai drivers they've never had any dealings with? You betcha. To be perfectly honest I'm a little cornfused about how this forum is soooooo much better and more mature when numerous times in this thread members have blatantly disrepected, name called, and been immature about a bunch of people they've never met or chatted with.
To me it seems this forum, or some of it's members, may suffer from a bit of Big Head syndrome. There has never been one bad word mentioned about this site on GC but this site has an entire thread dedicated to bashing not just the website but all of the members of GC as well. To say that nobody at GC has any car knowledge or would be put to shame in a battle of wits with members on this site is just plain ignorant. There are numerous Hyundai techs, guys who can and have built entire engines in their garage, professional race teams, etc.

However, when you mention "this forum" I would think you're referring to the staff that's representing the forum. I reread this thread, though I've been following it all along, and I don't feel we've said anything untrue about GenCoupe. We've made statements of fact as well as our opinion on what makes our site better. We aren't bashing them, in fact we've pointed out positive points to GenCoupe. I'm not sure where your anger is coming from, honestly, but I feel it's affecting your interpretation of the text.
I think a lot of your statements are incorrect, maybe written a little more harsh due to anger for some reason. I think you stretched the comments of members into something more than their original intent.
Fair enough. We run our forums differently, but that's our choice. We choose to protect members. We've seen countless companies come and go over the last decade or more, some taking thousands of dollars and running.
We have members who have had money taken by SFR and never refunded. To me, that's theft. I don't know specifics of IS so I can't comment, but I've read his comments where he states (from memory), "I say they're made in the U.S., and everyone knows the real ones are made in Korea so obviously my cheaper U.S. version is not going to be the actual brand name." I believe it's misleading with intent to trick the average consumer. YMMV. I won't go any further, because I personally have no experience with him. This just comes from a screenshot I read of his comments.
What are you referring to? I'm a little lost on this one. How are the people here being blatantly disrespectful to fellow Hyundai drivers?
Again, not sure who you're talking about, and how are you aware that people in this thread have never met or chatted with others?
You're welcome to your opinion. Our members made a thread, we allowed it. We didn't feel any need to lock it or prevent members from voicing their opinion. We welcome both sides of the discussion, which is why we're perfectly fine with you posting your opinion.
I'm fairly certain that was never said. If it was, the member was wrong. That's a stupid blanket statement to make. From what I recall, it was stated that there is a lot of misinformation on there. I agree, there's a lot, but you'll find bad info anywhere. It's up to the community to correct it and provide proper guidance and direction for anyone reading that thread.

Here are the rude, ignorant, and disrpectful posts all summed up for you:
This site is alot better than Gencoupe.com. People have horrible complexes over there and treat members awkwardly. I will be on this site almost every day now and I probably will only visit Gen Coupe once every few months, and that will only to see what the vendors have going on. Otherwise that site has nothing I need that I can get here or from googling stuff online.
I cant say anything else that hasnt already been said in this thread other than I agree with you all. GenCoupe.com is full of pricks and the moderators over there seem to let the vendors do what ever they want. I hate the staff on that site, along with alot of the members. I cruise around with a couple other GC guys and we all feel the same way about things. We seperated ourselves completely from any and all GC owners that think they are better than other Hyundai owners and have superiority complexes. I now remain loyal and faithful to this forum alone. The only time I will ever log in to GenCoupe again is to see if there are any group buys. I'm trying to get GOOD vendors to come here also so that the GC community has a proper forum to come to and will leave GenCoupe behind.
I will agree with other people here in regards to there being alot of unfriendly and dumbass members on gencoupe but you will get there everywhere. Unfortunately, the dumbass members are whats giving alot of genesis owners a bad name. Kind of like what alot of the GK owners did to the tiburon community. I mostly have been lurking here to try and feel this place out and as I read more and more and get to see how the members are on this site, I like what I see. I really do think that some of the younger genesis members should come here and learn about the roots and the evolution of Hyundai but with young members, many wont take the time to learn the history of their car or the even the company which to me is sad and doesnt make them a true enthusiast. If you loved your car in every way then you would take the time to learn how it came to be and how Hyundai managed to become what it is today. Maybe I'm stupid for thinking that but it just makes sense in my opinion.
I forsee great things happening with Hyundai and this is definitely the site/forum any TRUE enthusiast will want to be apart of. My

^ This!
Even when I owned my Tiburon, it was known through out the scene that if anybody wanted to know advanced modifications about their car, then this was the site to be at. You put the top 10 people at Gen Coupe up against the top 10 members here and have a battle of the wits, and Hyundai Aftermarket will completely DESTROY anything that Gen Coupe can come up with. I've seen this with my own eyes a few different times with members here against the so called experts at NT and even at CH.

As I said I don't know the history of everything SFR but I do know that on GenCoupe.com they haven't done anything illegal and have tuned hundreds of coupes to the owners liking, with no blown engines or issues.
I can say they haven't met or interacted with the people they're bashing becase I'm one of those members and have never had any interactions with 99% of the members on this site, and the ones I have, aren't the ones bashing. Sure there is a bit of anger in my posts because I see a thread started at GenCoupe about you guys bashing the site. Then I come here and find posts calling GC members pricks, dumb asses, stupid, etc. Then in the same thread I see people talking about how much better this site is because people are nice, respectful, and "out for the good of the Hyundai community"... Kind of contradictory. Where has a GC member ever said anything bad about this site, until now?
If you don't want a forum that allows freedom of expression and opinions, then this may not be the best site for you. We want you to stay and enjoy yourself.
I agree, some of the comments were rude and disrespectful (not all of course) but they're the opinions of the members. The same comments have been posted there on GenCoupe.
As far as GenCoupe not bashing HA, I guess I should apologize for something?
should we make an attempt to piss people off and start rants?
I've said nothing bad about Jay. I was at a meet with 40+ Genesis and I think 13-15 got tuned by SFR. Everyone was happy and there were no problems. I do know of members who have had bad experiences and lost money, and many that originated before the Genesis platform. There are numerous threads on other forums, but this isn't the place to bring that up.
The bottom line is that we allow our members to voice their opinions. We don't delete threads unless it's to clean up the place (i.e., the same thread posted in three sections) and in that case we merged posts to maintain the integrity of the thread. I think that's a positive thing, but you may have a different opinion. It's okay, we welcome your opinion, too.

What's particularly interesting is that everyone you quoted (with the exception of Tibbon, whose comment was only a "sounds like") and in fact most of the people with negative comments in this threat are GC owners who came from GenCoupe. These are the people who got so fed up with how things were run that they came over here. Now they're simply venting about the issues and people they encountered.
So as far as HA bashing GenCoupe, just realize that it's almost solely former GenCoupe members who are doing so.
Like I said above, former GenCoupe GC owners doing the bashing (plus Tibbon... doh!), not the whole forum.
Maybe because there's nothing bad to say about it?
This thread was made by former GenCoupe members for former GenCoupe members as an opportunity to vent. 1 thread out of the thousands on here.
Agree; that was a very ignorant thing to say. There are many specific cases and issues that people have had, but to generalize like that is just plain stupid.

Where did I say or imply that this thread or people's posts should be censored? I simply pointed out how most of the members posting in this thread were being rude, disrepectful, and ignorant about/to GC members and at the same time saying how this was a better place because everyone was "for the community". Very contradictory. I'm not one who likes to be censored and in my almost 3 years and 9000+ posts I've never once been censored. So the whole "OMG GC CENSORS EVERYTHING" mentality people are complaining about in this thread is BS. They only sensor/edit personal threats, non vendor LINKS (you can post all the info you want, just no links to buy), and childish posts.

Well then I guess that's why things have calmed down over at GC recently. The problem children left.
I honestly came to this forum expecting something better but after seeing the ignoramuses posting in this thread (the rude ones I quoted, not everyone) I don't see how this forum is any better. You have people spouting misinformation and BS About people instead of about cars. Potatoe Potatoe
As I said before, this whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. I support CrookedH completely. I've had ONE post removed over at GC, and that was because the mod came in, took out everyones stupid stuff and locked the thread. I express my thoughts all the time at GC without fear of being moderated on. And yes, Gencoupe has gotten a lot quieter. I don't have much else to say on this subject, but I felt I needed to show Crooked some support. It sucks when you're being bombarded by everyone because you have a different opinion on a matter.
