Default Genesis auto to manual conversion

I think after my car is paid off more Im interested in doing the A/T to M/T swap. How big of a project is it? I have done engine swaps in the past but never did a tranny one.

I did it in my Tiburon. Something tells me RWD is exponentially more difficult than FWD.

It'd probably be cheaper to trade it in for a M/T model.

Wow there's a lot of unhelpful asshattery over there. That was my first time reading a GC thread and if it's any indication no wonder we get so many former GC members joining up here.

If you can deal with an engine swap, you can do a transmission conversion. The EASY part would be changing the gearboxes out. The hard part (unless there is a DIY, like for the RD platform) is figuring out what else to do. Shifter and clutch stuff is simple, wiring and ECU pinouts less so.

the easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to find a car with a manual transmission that was rolled or had a blown engine, and use all the manual-related parts from it on your car. That way 1) you know you have all the parts and 2) you know where they all go and how they fit. That's what I (and several other RD owners) did. Downside: you have to find a good donor car!

It is definitely not a two-beer job. Unless you have a significant amount of non-transferable mods on your current car, it will almost definitely not be worth the significant effort and money to play swapsies.

As long as the computer doesn't scream when the TCU isn't hooked up, it should be easy enough in theory.

You need the clutch linkage from the pedal to the slave cylinder, the transmission, the flywheel, the interior bezel (possibly a different console/dash?), and maybe a driveshaft if they are different.

It boils down to parts availability and cash, as well as your comfort level when it comes to taking a drill to the firewall and a sawzall to the tunnel.

all said and done, you're looking at ~ 5K if you buy all the parts new (trans being $3,800 or so according to that gencoupe thread), and a week or so of farting around looking for parts that you forgot.

It's actually easier to swap a RWD trans than a FWD trans, at least for me.

Honestly the cheapest and best option might be an LSX swap and T-56, if you are going to go through that whole process of a major swap.

An LS swap would be quite a bit harder in my opinion, since you'd have to get teh engine management working right, as well as smog/etc stuff.

If the body control unit and the ECU talk, then you run the risk of the BCM not allowing basic creature comforts without the ECU present.

Big can of worms there...

I only say that because Enjuku racing did it and have a kit for it.
