Default 8 speed tranny?

I was reading that the 2012 Equus will come with an 8 speed tranny. Thats really cool. Im trying to imagine the type of gears and electronics it would have to control such a beefy tranny. I bet working on it must be a nightmare too. Im also guessing that the gearing is really low and its only meant to get good gas mileage versus performance. Anybody have other thoughts about it?

8 speeds is a gimmick. Go to a CVT and be done with it already.

I hate CVT's (and torque converters for that matter). Porsche is coming out with a 7 speed manual... a real one, with a clutch pedal.

Hey, here's an idea: How about we design a nice flat torque curve into our new engines, so all this is moot anyhow?

NAH, let's hit one torque peak 12 times and call it a benefit!

^^^ And why don't we all trade in our cars for "personal mobility devices" that move us from place to place automatically so as to maximize economy and safety? How about "no"?

This is 2011. I'm still waiting for my teleporter and/or my flying car.
