Default $739/month

Just saw a commercial for the Equuis and Hyundai is doing a special where its $0 down and $0 payment for the first month. In small print it said the lease was $739 a month. Crazy expensive. Guess that's why you don't see very many on the roads.

Buying a top-end luxury car: baller

Buying it from a low-tier manufacturer: cheesy

Financing it because you can't afford it outright: lying

Getting sucked into horrible loans b/c advertising: stop now.

I'm not sure that I would do it if I were planning to spend that much.

If that was to BUY, I'd be all over it. That's like a $42k vehicle for 60 months at 2.9%. I'd take it for that price!!

Has everyone seriously not done their research on this?

The 1st gen was joint venture with Mitsubishi. The vehicle has merit, it's just not a "name" so it's not doing as well in the US market. The price is pretty accurate for what one is getting, a limo you can drive around... for some reason.

I'm honestly a little shocked it's not raping the market with a fury. In slow economic times the smart businessperson should be all over a competitor with same stats an better price, but iirc the Merc and BMW markets haven't suffered much at all in this class. It's a it of testament to how stubborn and vain the US market can be.

Tibbi, I agree that it is a technically great car. But:

It's a bit of testament to how stubborn and vain the US market can be.

Is more correct. Lexus had to be technically excellent, cheap, and removed from Toyota before they started making dope cash money. And even then it took them a minute to gain a market share. This is basically Lexus mkII with a bigger badge disadvantage.

It's still one of the cheapest full size luxury cars on the market though. I can guarantee you that nobody will be chauffeured around, so all of those fancy back seat footrests and chillers are just for show

As an aside, can I just take a minute to protest about the sheer number of clashing colors and materials going in the cabin though? It's obviously a very well designed interior, every single touch point is of high quality. However, there are some bizarre features:

  • Blue LED dome lamps that look more at home on a hong kong eBay store than in a $65,000 luxury sedan
  • Ditto for the vast swathes of faux woodgrain
  • The center stack, air vent surrounds, shifter surround, and door handles are all painted a shitty silver - it was already distasteful and not very durable on the LC accent guys.
  • It has pretend a iDrive system
  • It actually plays a shutdown chime

I just... none of this stuff was accidental. They know what they are doing and must have decided that this is what buyers want, but still...
