Default Scratches under door handle

What causes scratches under the door handle? I'm very very careful so that my fingernails or keys dont touch the paint when opening the door. But some how there are all these real fine scratches by the handle. Are they caused by driving or something else? They look something like this

You are not as careful as you think, and you are not the only one sticking fingers in there since the car was new. It will get scratched.

they are just fine scratches. Some decent polishing compound should get those out
