Hyundai Elantra Forum The Hyundai Elantra Forum. Later models (96-up) of this 4-door share their Beta engines and chassis with the Hyundai Tiburon. Earlier Mistubishi-based Hyundai Elantras (92-95) are perfect candidates for the popular 4g63t motor swap, which turns the Hyundai Elantra into a real sleeper. These characteristics make the Hyundai Elantra a great car for those who want sports car performance with family car flexibility.

Default Which Engine Would You Buy?

Assuming these are all viable options when building your 201x Hyundai Elantra GT (5-door hatchback). Which engine option would you purchase?

It's an Elantra, I'd stick with the basic, if I wanted to go fast I'd mod a Gen coupe. The turbo diesel version is too expensive. If I wanted a diesel I'd buy a VW.

f*ck VW. VW sucks balls. I've had friends LOYAL to VW, purchased 6 vehicles in under 10 years (always getting new models). They continually had issues and spent way too much time at the dealerships getting sh*t fixed.

3 Beetles (2 convertibles), GTI, Jetta, Passat... looked into getting the Tiguan and decided they wanted out of VW. Went with a Tuscon and loved it. Recently got the Elantra GT and love it. Looking forward to buying a Genesis Sedan RSpec next.

Stupid sh*t getting 'fixed' under warranties. Leaking headlights, suspension problems, annoying rattles, too many years of complaints and problems, and horrible dealerships.

I'd love to see Hyundai put out good diesel engines in the U.S.

give me the Turbo 4

I love my MkV GTI Majik. I can't say I love the Dealership, but only because I know how it works on the inside, Not the technicians... but management. Just a**holes trying to nickel and dime customers while they cut the budget of every worker in the shop.... wheres that Rant thread again? lol

My money in the real world? A demo model/one year old turbodiesel. Diesels have better resale value, you've got low-down power where it counts, and getting a one year old car dodges the 30-40% depreciation that you'd ordinarily get with a brand new car.

It would take a turbo 4 to even get me to look at it.

i prefer the natural torque of naturally aspirated bulk displacement engine..turbos are nice but are complex and not easy to maintain.

scion tc has a 2.5, mazda 3 the same, civic si has a k2.4 engine,

and they have more room the engine bay
