elantra rear brakes 1996-2000
 

For all those who want to do a rear disc conversion i thought i'll post some information and photo's to confuse you as much it has me.



My planned rear brake conversion didn't go ahead as planned due to the brake fabricators who were doing the job said there were too many irregularities with the parts i had supplied so i had no other choice to get the drums re-done which doesn't make it viable to continuing the conversion as the drums will properly out last the car.





I met this guy selling parts for J2 lantra as i was interested in his dash and also having a look at his rear brakes as they are disassembled it gave me the opportunity to see what or if any differences are between sedans and wagons pre 1999 and there isn't so that confused me as the information on hmaservice.com doesn't match the axle holders that i have now seen as their diagrams basically show you can swap drums to disc's ? To confuse matters more i had the opportunity to take some snaps of Tims 96 J2 rally car that has disc's that did'nt match any pictures I've seen but he said the rally car did have a rear disc conversion on it which was done when it was originally built up around 1996 (from new). The only thing he had done with the rear brakes was have them rebuilt and reconditioned with new seals and some racing brake pads, so unfortunately do not know much about the actual conversion :headshake:

i just changed the shoes on my j2 but will definitely consider this in the future

I did a rear disc conversion on my wagon. All I needed was the complete hub assemblies off a coupe with handbrake cables and brake hoses. All bolted up fine bled brakes and was away racing.

My rear disk setup was the same way

Tiburon setup entirely cept I had to order new e brake cables as mine were the wrong length

Looks like i was feed a lot of bull$hit, maybe you guys should do a diy and post some pics for future reference

install rear disk brake hubs onto elantra



connect brake line



connect e brake cable (may or may not need to order different ones...youll know right away if you do)



bleed brakes
