Default Elantra GT Intake Cams

Ok so I've been reading up on the whole cam swap routine. I'm gonna give the Elantra 2001.5/GT swap a shot, since that seemsto be the new thing to do. The cool thing is, one can have the part delivered to their door. (Hyundai Parts Extranet)

The part number is 24100-23501. This is for cars produced after April of '01. It's 150 bucks +shipping.

Seems like their shouldn't be issues with too much lift. According to HMA service the new cam should have the 0.8mm over stock while they say the limit is 0.9 mm over stock. Sounds good to me.

All in all, sounds like and entertaining project and I'll let everyone know how it comes out. Hopefully I won't FUBAR it.

It's not a hard swap, at least no harder than any other intake cam swap. Probably takes about 20 minutes if you have the tools sitting nearby and a warm place to work.

One thing I did notice was the idle quality when down quite a bit Let me know how yours does, it might just be my old tired valve springs and, well, the whole motor after 98k miles that doesn't like it wink.gif I dropped vacuum to about 12.5 inches when cold and about 14 inches when warm. I still think that's partially because the motor is just getting old...

Perhaps I have a vacuum leak, but honestly I don't care. The whole damn thing is being replaced very shortly, so it can wait!

That's cool! My motor is still fairly new...only 18k miles. I've been looking at the various install guides and whatnot and have decided I am quite capable of the task. May take me more then 20 minutes but no more then an hour.

And what are you replacing the whole damn thing with? smile.gif

$577.00 big bones for that bad boy damn HYundai website. I bet Boogyman can get you the cam cheaper in Korea.

For some reason, my browser shows that the price for that CD player is $750.10
That's just insane. Who the hell would pay over $700 for a stock stereo???

Timing is dead-on, I checked twice -- and the timing belt was never removed, so I doubt it's fux0red. I think the motor is just getting old. Besides, if you have the intake cam off by more than 2 teeth, your valves become very intimate with the piston crowns.

I'm replacing the entire motor with the "project motor" so I'm not really worried. I'm actually pretty sure it's a vacuum leak, but I'm not motivated enough at the moment to track down a vacuum leak on a motor I'm going to remove in less than a month.

Well now remember, the project motor is installed under the stock ECU and under N/A power, so don't get totally excited yet smile.gif We still gotta break it in before I start swapping computers and eventually installing St0opId Bo0sT y0!
