I've seen Accent GT's and Elantra GT's. What does the GT signify and is it just an options appearance package or are these cars faster or handle better than their non-GT counterparts?

GT is meant to be like 'grande touring', but manufacturers use it as an excuse to drape the car in every bit of factory rice that they can find.

X3 accent GT gained a DOHC engine and a bunch of natty features like power windows and leather gearknobs

Elantra GT simply got the european-spec suspension, and a bunch of natty features like power windows and leather gearknobs

For the 2003-2005 Accent GT you got a leather steering wheel and shift knob, white faced indiglo gauges, body cladding, rear spoiler, unique fabric for the seats and door panels, stiffer springs with a half inch lower ride height, and stiffer struts.

I've already worn the leather off the wheel and the shifter, it looks really ugly (want to replace). Are you sure about the stiffer struts? I haven't been able to find a different part number.

And you forgot sun roof and fog lights.

No LC2 Accent GT's had sunroofs. In fact, No LC@ Accent's in the US had sunroofs. I know the GSI's got them in Canada, but they're not available here.

Fog lights are on the GT's, but not GT specific.

The 14" aluminum wheels are GT specific though, I forgot those.

The factory struts are slightly stiffer. There is no specific replacement that is GT/GSI only. The KYB GR-2's are valved to approximate the stiffness of the GT struts, but they're a lot better than the factory GT struts.
