Turboing LC Accent...HELP!!!
ok anybody that can help please do......
I'm looking on turboing my 2000 gsi w the 1.5l this winter
what i basically wanna do is make it like a budget turbo but reliable.... i don't need any fancy chrome polished front mount intercooler or super huge turbo...just something for low boost(5-9psi)
anyways i'm looking for help from every one that can help......so please do 5 stars for everyone that does....
so........lets get started
1. will a scoupe turbo manifold fit on my engine???
2. which turbo should i use a td25 or a t3
3. will there have to be any upgrades in my engine to handle low boost......
4. hows about my fuel system. i know i have a fuel return system so is that good enough for low boost???
come on guys i need you help for my project...
Please....
Thanks

First of all there is no such thing as a low budget turbo, you will always spend more than you have planned.
I beleive there are some ppl who have turboed there 1.5 with the Scoupe turbo, but for less money and more hp per dollar you should just do a Beta transplant, its suppose to be more easier install on the LC than on the X3.

a T3 would prbibly be too bid for what you want to do, you will always be reving you engine into 3k-3.5k to start getting boost, T3's are usually on 2.2L engines and up. The perfect turbo for your engine is an IHI RHB5 they are ball bearing and spool up 600-700 rpm quicker than standard oil sleeved turbos, but most are water cooled. However like i said, they will on the smaller engines start creating boost around 1500-1750 rpm. that will give you yhe longevity you wanted because you will be shifting quicker and not taking your engine so high up. Fuel... you will need larger injectors, a return fuel path with a fuel managment device and a pressure regulater and you will nedd to make "black box" to bypass a massairflow meter, due to the large amounts of air going in to the engine, the ECU usually panics and starts clipping and shut off the injectors to slow the engine down and that causes the engine to run lean under boost and that will kill it quick. and lastly 1-2 step colder plugs to avoid detonation, you have your work cut out for you... go now my young apprentice
Kelly forgot to say... dont know about the scoupe manifold. the best bet is to go to a junkyard and grab a manifold off a smashed donar, then cut the end off it and weld on a custom flange for the turbo. about the IHI turbos... also in the junkyard(i love that place) good donar cars for turbos are like the subaru 85 AWD turbo, mazda 323 and stuff like that. go out and unbolt the turbos and be sure to get the exhaust side flange and down pipe. inspection should be good fin condition and lttle or no endplay. At that point it would be a real good idea to rebuild it with new bearings and seal. take care of turbo disassembly due to if you damage an IHI RHB5 housing or shaft it will be like $500-$600 to repair/replace frown
just to add, the IHI RHB5 is watercooled AND oil cooled. It came stock on my 90 probe gt that i owned. it is one of the fasest spolling turbos ever to come on a car stock. they have a lot of power, but they really dont have any top end. but i would definitly think about the IHI RHB5. its a good turbo that can boost more then 15 psi easily. i was pushing 12 with no problems. with the stock turbo i was at 172 horse and like 210 torque. i miss that car.
Kelly,
I agree with everything so far, that's to include Jaws' reply. You are gonna spend more on the turbo that you have planned (Trust me!!!! Iknow first hand). But another car you may want to look for in the junk yard is a 1987 Ford Thunderbird. That's the turbo that I used. It's a T3/T4 hybrid, but instead of building boost in the 3k range, if I turn the boost level all the way up I start getting boost around 2200-2600 RPMs. Hope this helps ya. BTW, you might want to check with Accent1. He turboed his 1.5L and may be able to help you a bit more.
