Default Slow Accent needs help!

First time at track... 19sec +/- (have timeslips at home)@ 69mph was my best, how embarassing. the next week I went back after removing my big ass speaker box, amp, and full size spare, changed plugs from platnium +4's which suck and were burnt out to autolights or something like that. I was also having trouble with heat under my hood heating up my IM after one run to the point were almost too hot to touch, so put washers under the hood to tilt it up for heat to escape (now can hold hand on IM after a 50mi trip at various speeds). anyways I know Im rambling but there is a point (dont want to leave out details)... 18.2 @ 72mph was my best w/ .6?? reaction time. but still having hesitation under WOT. Ive changed my fuel filter but not sure wtf is up. How can I check the fuel pump and/or injectors to see if thats my problem? 97 accent AT! 1.5/cone filter/ gutted cat/ muffler/ and did run with my heavy 15inchers, next week Ill see what happens when I put on my stock steellies. Ive got a guy working on a ported head and should be ready in 2-3 weeks. Needless to say I need to do better for Hyundai since Im the only one at my local track, not even a Tib. I would like to do alot to my ride but dont have the funds right now. The head and work was a gift.

You're driving an Accent, automatic...I am not sure there is anything short of a turbo or nitros that is going to help anything.

do you have a true CAI or is it just a cone filter on the end of your mass air?

the auto accents arent really any slower than the 5 spds. when my auto accent was totally stock it ran a 17.8.

erikgsi- Im kinda glad to hear that those times are about normal for a accent but damm thats just too slow.

mateus- yeah a turbo would be nice $$$$, and Ive actually thought of nitrous but not sure what gains I would get and if its worth it having to refill and all. Plus I would abuse it for sure. Its still prolly the cheapest bang for buck...

accent 1- yeah just a k&n cone filter. I like the RS CAI but would have to cut the fender since I dont see any other way to do it.

Im going to track again tomorrow to see what difference the stock 13 inch vs 15 inch rims/tires makes. Still have the hesitation that feels like engine not getting enough fuel. I guess I always take it to dealer and have them hookup to computer. Thanks for your input guys.

I have a layout for a cold air intake if you want it! It doesn't cost that much to build!!

It looks like this!

thanks for the pic. Is that a MT? Mine is a AT and I sure I would have to cut something to make it work. I see you have your battery turned sidways, that would give me a little more room to work with.

My battery is from a lawn and garden tracter! That is why it is so small! You will just have to work at makeing an intake fit! I put a 3" intake on an automatic tibby when evertone said it wouldn't! Just use your imagination!
