Default shorty antenna

Ok this one is a head scratcher. i bought a shorty antenna off ebay that looks like the ones that come on s2000's. when i put it on the accent, i get horrendous signal. when we put it on my friends civic he gets a great signal. we both have alpine cd players. would would cause me to have really bad signal with it when he gets great signal. i know its 2 completely different cars but an antenna is an antenna. it shouldnt matter what car its on.

Have you been able to put your stock antenna back on to see if your signal is normally fine? Try the antenna with some other stuff; some home theatre setups can attach to external FM antennas.

Is his or yours wired to have a signal amplifier for the antenna? Sometimes this makes a difference. I would suspect his is wired with amplification where yours is not.

Since I bought my Elantra in 04, I have had a horrible signal no matter what antenna was on the car. Maybe it's a Hyundai thing, lol?

I have an S-2K antenna on my car and I get a really strong signal. No issues at all with it.

I installed an aftermarket shorty on the tib and have had no problems with signal. But if I remember correctly I also had to go get a wiring adapter to make it work right. I either had 2 male or 2 female ends and had to get a wire to fit both.

Also the easy answer is to make sure the antenna wire is plugged into the stereo. I missed that step the first time I messed with a stereo system and wondered why it wasn't working lol.

My Genesis Coupe has a shark fin antenna. My 2009 Murano is similar, but has a short stub sticking out of it.

My GC gets a horrible signal on one radio station (102.5), but everything else works fine. The Murano picks up that station without a problem.
