Hyundai Accent Forum The Hyundai Accent Forum. Hyundai's little champ. While the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Excel may be small, they respond very well to aftermarket modifications and is among the favorites for Hyundai tuners.

Default Need to pass smog...

Alrighty, so I have had my CEL on ever since i've had the car. Never had to smog it until this year, registration is due the 24th and it won't pass. I have had it scanned several times, each time with only 1 code.

1st time: 2nd O2 sensor (replaced, light went off for a day then came back on)
2nd time: MAF Sensor (replaced, light went back on after a day....)
3rd time: 1st O2 Sensor (replaced, light came back on after 2-3 days)

well i got it scanned for the last time and it came up with:

P0441: Evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow

not too sure what that means, i look on hmaservice.com and it doesn't help me too much. If anyone has had that code and can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated, because registration is due in 3 days and i don't want to pay late fee's and get tickets...

My tib gave me the same code for a while because I kept topping the car off at every fill up after letting it sit for four or five months. It was because the evap canister was getting soaked with gas so it could never breath. I don't know about your accents canister but maybe you should remove it and replace it or maybe you can clean it out and reuse it. Hell I don't really know if your problem is the same but I'm just throwing you some suggestions.

I just randomly found this at the other forum I'm on a lot. http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry345164

If your not a member there you should be with the project you have in mind.

That sounds like either your gas cap is not sealing properly or your evap canister/valve need service.

This is in general, I'm not intimately familiar with Hyundai evap systems so I can't give specific instructions.<ul>[*]Check for vacuum leaks on hoses coming into the canister.[*]Check for cracking or poor sealing in the hoses from the intake to the canister purge valve.[*]If all that appears fine, buy a new gas cap from the dealer.[*]If the light's still on inspect the hose and connections between the tank and canister.[*]If they're fine look up the wiring schematic and ensure that the canister purge valve solenoid is operating properly by hooking up to a ground and a 12v source to the proper pins.[*]If the solenoid is functioning disconnect the canister and look for a filter. If there is one replace or clean it.[*]Try spraying everything to do with the valve with brake cleaner.[*]If all else fails either take it to the dealer or replace the canister and canister purge valve.[/list]

You got the Tib, is the evap can and gas cap the same? If so, swap them out, clear the codes and see what happens. You are going to need some seat time to re-learn the computer in order to pass the emissions.

Most emissions places (in Georgia atleast) check the gas cap by putting a vacuum on it and looking at the leak rate. You could possibly take your car to the emissions place and have them test the cap. Just a thought.
