motor swap
heya i'm a newbie on these forums and was hopeing that someone on here could please please give me some answers well the old tansmission in my 2000 accent is pretty much toast and instead of putting a new or used tranny in my car this is a perfect opertunity to do a full motor swap and luckily enough i found a used elantra for only 300.00 but the only situation is it's a 97 so will this motor fit and what all would i have to swap over and what or what not will bolt up with the existing accent body?

The engine will fit like any other Beta swap. The transmission mounts will need to be significantly modified or fabricated if you're using the Elantra tranny instead of yours. Where you mount the engine/tranny will determine what you need to do about axles.
The engine control system on the 97 Elantra is enough different than yours that you will have to make major wiring revisions and run the car off of the Elantra's ECU.

It would be easier to get the motor and transmission from a 01 - 03 Elantra and Follow JSharptooth's DIY Guide.
Although the 97 motor and trans will work But I don't know how it works like that.

i would get the motor and tranny from an 01-03 elantra but where i'm from in nova scotia canada the 01-03 elantra's are from 1000 to 3000 for a used car and if i were to pay that much then i might as well just drive the car that's why gettin a older style elantra is the easiest way to go right now and 300 bucks for a good running car is a really good deal but i have'nt made a decision as of yet plus the elantra that i was looking at is a standard and my car is an auto so there will be alot of work cut out for me if i decide to do this

It's much easier to swap to the Beta II. It's enough easier that you don't need a donor car, just the engine and a 1.6l ECU if you're a 1.5l and a little extra wiring. The transmission swap will be harder than the engine swap actually if you go that route.
If you use the 97 engine you will pretty much be on your own because most people have gone the easier route and swapped in the Beta II engine.

ok well i'm skipping the motor swap all together for the mean time and i was able to source out a used automatic tranny so i'm able to get my car back on the road and i want to attempt to put it in myself with the help of two friends and was wonderin if anyone on here has ever changed an automatic tranny and if so how hard was it to do and would it beeasier to pull the motor to change it or just change it from underneath the car without removeing the motor?

Unless it's way bigger than a manual change it from underneath the car. It's not going to be easy, but IMO easier than pulling the engine. You might find it helps to to loosen the motor mounts if you can't get it out.
Get a tranny jack if you don't have one, plus really tall jack stands and a jack that goes high enough to give you quite a bit of room.

ok got the tranny swap done and everything is running smoothly but it turns out that it was 10x easier to pull the motor out to do the swap then it was to pull the tranny from underneath the car but atleast i now now what needs to be done for the motor swap when i get to do it
