Hyundai Accent Forum The Hyundai Accent Forum. Hyundai's little champ. While the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Excel may be small, they respond very well to aftermarket modifications and is among the favorites for Hyundai tuners.

Default Might be doing some head work

I got an offer from a dude on ebay who says he owns a machine shop to do some headwork for me in exchange for my turbo (which is still for sale dammit). I still plan on going forced induction down the line, but this sounds like a decent deal to me... He offered port polish, skim, face valves and re-lap valves with three angle valves eats.

What sort of things should I look out for? What sort of things should I ask to be done? I'm still pretty set on going forced induction, but so long as I can run mid to low 14's all day i'd be happy.

Now I'm not 100% sure on the alpha motors, but the beta's come with 3 angle valve jobs from the factory. I would expect the alpha's to be the same.

The beta heads flow like *** . Headwork on them is not known to produce much. I've never ripped apart an alpha, so I can't say there.

Supergtrsman would be the guy to ask. He did some awesome things with that accent, and to be honest, he has the most experience modding out that motor.

Actually, what ever happened to that SilverGT Accent guy that was running 13's N/A? Haven't seen him since FXtreme. I thought he lived in the Massachusettes area. Anyways, he had pretty much everything done in the Accent.

The Beta's have a 3angle job factory? That seems odd to me... Like its a kind of expensive thing to do when you're a car company building cheap cars.

I was more wondering in general what I should ask for and look out for if this goes through (though i'm doubtful it will).

I can validate the 3-angle valve seat job stock on the Beta valve seats -- the valves are only a 2-angle cut; don't ask me why. Dan the Hyundai Tech here in ABQ helped demonstrate this to me on one of my stocker heads before I had it worked on...

In any case, the ALPHA motors do respond much better to normally aspirated mods than the BETA motors. The ones in Australia show almost a 50% power gain just from individual throttle bodies; and I've seem them show a 100% gain with a ported head, cam, ITB, header and exhaust. Pretty psycho! eek!

Accents are VERY popular over in Australia.

To paraphrase Random, "Leave it to Hyundai to needlessly complicate things".

I found this on webtech, its a page for inspecting and reconditioning the 1.6L DOHC alpha head. Can any of y'all gleen any info off of this?

looks just like the page for the Beta. So I would say the alpha's have the same 3 angle job.

When i port and polished my Cylinder head i gained ONLY 6WHP but instead of doing a 3 angle valve job a radius cut job was done instead?

Its hard to say that the radius cut is better but if RED only gained 2-3WHP taht i would say go for the radius cut as you will gain that extra 3 WHP as i did!!
