MC Accent Cruise questions
Bought my wife an '09 Accent in February to replace her old car which is accidentally killed..... huh.gif
Nevertheless, we paid an extra $300 to the dealer with promise of a cruise control system which I (in error) assumed to be the market cruise. A few months and loads of research later I find out that the OEM cruise requires a whole other wiring harness and ecu from the SE sad.gif Needless to say that's not going to happen for $300. They want to have some 3rd party joint slap on some Audiovox cruise. Mind you these guys that would (potentially) be doing the job are quite reputable, in fact they have supplied me with more audio equipment over the years than I care to count.
Here are my concerns:
1. Build quality is in question, I'm not a huge fan of audiovox but it's all these guys offer.
2. The shop has never actually installed one of these.
3. The warranty on the car will obliviously not cover failure of the device or malfunction caused by the unit. (Yes the dreaded "w" word)
4. And the actuator warranty is half as long as the car's warranty.
Warranty is a major concern because that has saved our bacon a number of times with my old Accent.
Has anyone else done this or even researched it? I just don't want to make a snap decision and get screwed.

How bad do you want cruise control?
If it goes out in 4 years, or 50,000 miles, how upset would you be? Enough to pay $300 for a replacement? How much is a replacement, if all they have to do is swap a motor?

Aftermarket cruise control units scare me. I don't like the idea of something non OEM controlling my acceleration for me. Granted I've never done any research on the matter so this is solely my paranoid opinion.

It's more for her, but if we go on a trip it's nice to have a crutch if we're going to be seated for 8+ hours. Yeah, lazy me.
Replacement actuators are in the range of 100-150, install at that point would be no different than if i did it since it's not commissioned by the dealer so it's not the scariest concept. But if I needs to be fixed out of warranty I could see the dealer washing their hands of anything fuel delivery, intake or electrically related. It's a bit of MY paranoia. The dealer claims that the installation won't void anything and I had 2 others (1 I trust with the tib, 1 I wouldn't trust with feces) and both said the same since it's commissioned by the dealer. Plus if it jacks up the car, that's on that manufacturer. Not a scenario I want to deal with but it's a backup. Now out of warranty, the last half of the Hyundai warranty, is kind of scary.

Unlike Toyota owners I know how to shift into neutral in case of emergency tongue.gif
Plus they'll install a kill switch just in case.
