I found this list of cheapest cars to drive and noticed that the accent was #2
is it actually that cheap when it comes to gas and insurance and stuff? i'm skeptical of the list cuz its clearly not written by an auto journalist. (half those pics are wrong)

It also lists the 3 door hatch, which is no longer made. (Pic is of an MC)
The Accent now retails 14.5k on the start too. My 07 cost $10,400, got an average of 45-46 mpg between oil changes (50 after the change and mid-low 40s on dirty oil). It was a phenomenal budget car. My wifes '09 was 13.3k and get low 40s on good oil, granted it's an auto
and they added a lot of sound deadening over the years, but it still beats the pants off of a Prius for cost of ownership.
I'd take those results with a grain of salt.

My Gen Coupe is cheaper by just a little bit on insurance. It's safer and has the immobilizer I guess.
My '08 Accent gets 37-40 mpg hauling ass with the AC on as of late. About 75% highway miles.
Tires last at least 60k.
Only major maintenance I've had to have done is a leaky axle seal and it was warranty.
I just ordered new brake shoes and pads at 85k miles.
New cabin filter once a year.
The rest is just 7.5k mile oil changes and a cooling flush.
