well hello everyone. I'm a nubie here and have really no desire to pick through another 50 pages of threads looking for info. so id like to just see what everyone has going on. i just picked up a 05 accent, low miles. i put a intake on it the night i got it home, just some 2.5" pipe i had laying around. my last build was a dodge colt 4g63t swapped that i loved dearly but lost the oil pump,, and then the motor went with it. i was going to rebuild but i needed a daily that had air. so i got this thing. well I'm having so much fun driving it i think I'm going to part out the colt and build this. my goal, 250-275 hp on pump. body work, but still sleeper. iv found a few set ups i liked but almost nothing i can really peace together. i would like to do this on a fully built 1.6, no swaps for me. so, if you got info, pics, links to sights, or past threads, on anything ill need, post them here please. thanks for any help i can get and i look forward to meeting some of you and being a part of your community. thanks, Benjamin
i don't think "1.6" and "monster" work in the same sentence easily. Atleast it hasent gone to far for me i thought it was a cool upgrade when i went from my old 1.5 to the dohc 1.6 come to find out no where really to go unless you wanna like turbo or something. 2.0 is my wanted upgrade and i will have one one hopefully once our elantra's mvi runs out in oct smile.gif
Here's the complete package http://www.kdmstuff.com/shop/step1.php?number=925 the turbo part anyway.
They claim 240-250hp. However it doesn't beef up the engine internals at all. I seriously doubt a stock 1.6 will last very long at that power.

no the stock 1.6 will not at all. i found a place that has a motor build kit with forged pistons and mls head gasket, barings and everything else. i havent found rods yet, nor have i found cams. well i found a place that has a pre set profile to weld on and re grind your stock 1.6 cams but i lost the link. im also going to need valves, and info on the stock crank. how strong is it. this will be a forced induction build. i dont have the tools, or skills to even think about tring to build a 250hp N/A 1.6. id be rich..... i think 250 is resonable. it can be done on the 1.6 and be safe for a DD. i just want to keep the ac. that will be the hard part. but hay, who ever said it would be easy....

You have a tough road ahead. 244whp is the record (as far as I know) for a boosted 1.6l Hyundai. It was owned by T-Wing in Australia.
Import Performance Parts has a high performance rebuild kit, and Pauter rods available. They also claim that they can get your cams reground, however IMO the 1.6l's factory cams are already suitable for boost.
With the high performance bearings and high volume oil pump the stock crank should be fine. I've never heard of it being the failure point on a built 1.6l Alpha engine. I would get an Accusump also though to ensure that you don't have oil starvation issues.
Just FYI, the Beta 2.0l swap is a weekend's worth of work and parts to build the Beta are more easily found and less expensive. 250-300hp is commonly achieved with a Beta without much of a headache.

thanks for the info. i have kinda gone back and forth with a swap. here are my reasons for not wanting to. 1, smog and reg. i really don't want any head aches. i want to pull up to the check station and be done. 2, wiring. iv done swaps, all of them we dumped the ac and other not needed parts for a quick built car. i plan on this to be a daily driver and need it to have ac, and all other wiring to work. i also hate dealing with a harness swap. so with that in mind, how legal is a swap, and can the 2.0 beta motor run of the alpha harness with only a few changes. i don't have a problem with making a spice harness, and i know that many company's out there use very similar plugs and harness set ups. i will be running some kinda air flue piggy back along with a remapped ecu. so any help with that and i would love to take on the 2lt swap. hell there are 2 of them at my wrecker here and i can get 1 with harness and ecu for 300, then i could have it built. i do like that option. my last question is, how strong are our motors.. I'm a mitsu guy and have built a few 4g63 motors, and that thing is tough. what do you guys here thing i could throw at it before it becomes useless on the street. thanks again to all.
