Is getting the lip closer to the ground better?

May be a stupid idea.

Getting the lip closer to the ground helps reduce pressure under the car, right?

Say your lip is already pretty close to the road. Could you put something like a brush to get the gap closer but it wouldn't rip off if it hits the ground.

Make sense?

That's actually not far off the mark. The ground effects F1 cars used lips that were mounted on sliders for the same effect.

However, it's not feasible on a softly sprung road car with OEM aero. You'll destroy the lip quite quickly and it'd be hard to prove that it's effective. Also you might overheat because that lip will disturb the negative pressure zone behind the radiator.

I have used lawn edging that has the bead cut off for under the car ground effects. It takes a beating quite well and can repeatedly make contact. It will wear faster from abrasion than impact.

I've sworn it off though in the name of anti rice. My two current Hyundais are the first two cars that I have not done this to in 20 years......
