Default General questions about my accent.

I am wondering a few diffrent things about my accent. My accent is a 1997 2 door 5 speed with a 1.5 sohc engine. I was basically wondering what the engine and tranny codes are, compression, stroke, and is there a diffrent or better engine that can be swapped in. I have only owned the car for 1 day so I know nothing about it. I am currently rebuilding due to 2 broken exhaust valves but I was wondering what all I can do to the head to make the engine run better and prepare it for boost later on down the road. I was also wondering what the internals can handle horse power and boost wise. Once I get it running I just want to boost/ turbo charge it only enough to have fun with. I am not looking to build a tire burning flame shootng street car, but just something to have fun in. Any replys are appreciated.

PS. am I going to be able to put my 15" momo's on it too, or are 15"s to much?

Chassis code: X3
Engine code: G4EK
Trans code: M5AF3
Compression: 10:1
Bore: 75.5mm
Stroke: 83.5mm

Best/most common engine swap is the Beta I 2.0l. It's an easy swap (as far as engine swaps go anyways) and it not only gives good gains right out of the box, there are a TON more parts available for the Beta. It's the engine from the Elantra and Tiburon.

A Elantra? Cool there was one sitting next to my accent at the junkyard. Does year matter or is there anything specific I should look for? It looked to me like a older model. Also will my tranny bolt up to it or does the elantra engine and tranny just swap in with no problems. This is good to know. Do them engines handle boost pretty well or not? If not then I will more then likily just boost my G4EK. Thanks for the info. This is exactly what I was lookin for.

1995-2000 Elantra or 1996-2001 Tiburon will be easiest for you. The Elantra/Tiburon ECU will even plug into your wiring harness and run the engine. A newer Beta II engine can also work, but the extra steps make it not worth it unless you're really committed.

Accent transmission will bolt up. You'll need a S-Coupe turbo clutch.

The Beta is very boost friendly.

The Beat 1 will take i would say about 12pounds of boost with a good tune on a aftermarket tunning system like the Aem Fic, or you can go with like 6 pounds and a safc should be safe, G4gf G4cp is the Tiburon and Elantra engine code, They are good strong engines. Plus if you want to go boost, i would personally ditch the 1.5 go with the 2l out of the Tib or Elantra and you can Get a set of 1.8l rods and pistons and just rebuild it, then you can throw like 16psi at is because the 1.8 rods and pistons put it at 7.8/1 compression. Or you can just swap and boost, I dont know what the mileage is on that 2l though, just remeber the Tunning means everything!

I am fairly good at tuning. I dont alot of it when I was running a DSM. I was wanting to ask you guys if this sounds good, ok here we go:

For tuning I planned on a Apexi SAFC 2, data logger, wideband so I can monitor the engine, AFPR, walbro 255. The walbro is just for more boost later down the road.

Its very well possible that I can throw the guy 200 bucks and have everything for the beta 1. I was reading that the elantra or tibby axles need to be shortened in order to use them on the accent. Is this true?

The stuff for boosting the beta is way later down the road, i was just thinking spend 300 and get my 1.5 running or spend 200 and get the beta 1.

Either way I need this car to run for work so what would you guys go with. Work hasnt started yet but its suppost to in a week or so.

Sorry about the double post. I was trying to edit my post and some how posted the same thing. BTW I was wondering if someone can give me a full run down of everything I will need for the swap. I know the engine, tranny, axles, and ECU but is there anything else?

Here's a DIY: Jsharptooth91's Beta 2 swap

The main difference is that you can run the engine on the Beta I ECU. Mechanically there are almost no differences.

You may or may not need to deal with switching out axles depending on how exactly you do the install. If the engine is positioned so that the differential is in the stock location you can use your axles. If not, you'll need to address the issue one way or another.

Kool, well im sure I can get the engine in the proper location. I can take some measurements and go from there. I have done a few hybrid swaps with my brother on his festiva so with his help I might be able to get this done in 1 shot. I am going up tomorrow to see what I can find out on the beta 1 engine. I wanna make sure its gonna be in good working order. Once I check everything out and everything looks good I will go ahead and finish taking my engine block out and prepare the engine bay for its transplant. Thanks for the DIY, I seen one one on hyundaiperformance but it didnt have that good of detail.

Just got back from the junk yard and checked out the elantra. Turns out that its a 1994 and the engine is totally backwards. The cams are positioned on the right side, so after seeing that I knew it wouldnt work. I walked the lot and came across a 1996 elantra GLS wagon. I walked around it and then poped the hood and sure enough it had the beta1. I am not sure if its a 1.8 or 2.0 but it is a beta. The valve cover is black and so is the sparkplug cover. I asked about it and he said that his wife wanted it but there isnt a title to it so he is gonna talk to her and see if she still wants it. If not I have first dibbs on it. He said that it had jumped time, and me being a noob I wasnt sure if it was a interfearence engine so I am not sure if the valves are bent. The engine is clean though. I am going out to get some pics of my accent to post up.
