Default Engine Internals For a 2002 Hyundai Accent

Im new to hyundai performance, but i am looking to go all out with this if i can. I can't find anything for the 1.6 DOHC motor. Pistons, crank, cams, ect. Does anyone make parts, or is there another motor that i can borrow parts off of? Please help the rookie! blink.gif

You can get a performance rebuild kit from Import Performance Parts with new pistons at your choice of CR but they don't include rods or a crank. I think that Racing Performance Works can get rods and cams for the 1.6l. I don't know of an aftermarket crank for the 1.6l, but I've never heard of the stock crank failing so a little lightening, balancing, and knife edging at a machine shop and you should be set.

No problem. The 1.6l can hold 200hp pretty reliably under boost.

If you're looking at pushing 300hp out of the Alpha you'll need a full balance and blueprinting done. That's a lot out of 1.6l. If you really want that much you would be a lot better off if you swapped to the 2.0l Beta. There are more parts available and 300hp is an easily achievable number with the Beta.

The highest powered Alphas I've seen were around 250hp but they seemed to do okay at that power level.

Really.. too much for a 1.6? I know its slander but ive seen dozens of honda 1.6 at 300+. I know too different motors, but i think you could cross some of the same ideas. I.E. low compression, seals, forged int. But if i were to go to a 2.0, what kind of work would that take? Lots of custom fab? Or is there some pre-made items to help with a swap. confused1.gif

The swap is easy as far as swaps go, and I think there are walkthroughs here but if not there are some on HP. There are people here that have done it who can help you also.

One of the big differences between a Hyundai 1.6l and a Honda 1.6l is the redline. With similar mods the Hyundai motor will almost always make a lot more torque than the Honda motors but they don't like spinning as fast so they don't get the big hp numbers. The torque is nice though and a lot of the time you'll still go faster than a Honda that has a lot more horsepower than you. The 250hp Hyundai 1.6l are also making about 250 lb/ft of torque. For similar hp Honda 1.6l they will usually be making under 200lb/ft, sometimes as low as 150lb/ft.

Either way, the 2.0l is capable of good numbers with 500+hp not being unreasonable if you build the engine and at least one has made 900hp. The 2.0l is extremely similar to the Mitsu 4G63, as Mitsu sold Hyundai the design and Hyundai only made a few tweaks to it.

No you dont. Heh heh. 200-225whp will put you at a better hp to go up against evos. You dont need 300 crank hp to take out an evo. For an Accent to have 300 hp would be the same if an Evo had 600....your looking at a fast and intense race car. Case in point. In a race say drag, who do you think would win: Lotus Elise or Evo both stock.

With out a doubt the Elise. Why is that? The car only comes stock with around 175-180 whp (Ive seen a couple Dyno sheets online so not too sure exactly wich)
It also weighs 1,900 lbs. Power to weight ratio. An Evo may have 300 hp but its AWD setup causes a big power loss and it ends up with 265 to the wheels and it weighs about 2,800 lbs.

The Accent weighs aound 2,255 (for my year 2004 GL) not sure yours but I'm sure its within a couple hundred pounds of that. So yeah double your hp and you'll be screamming down the street. Its a fact the 1.6 can handle 250 moderatly. It's mainly due to the tranny. the syncros in the Alpha tranny are weak and cant take the power/ speed shifting most ppl do when racing. So not to bring you down I'm telling you this to show you how easily acheivable your goals are when implemented right. save yoursel some time and money and go where few dare to go. stick with the 1.6, go turbo and you'll see what i mean... cool.gif
