Coolant Flush: Where to dispose of the fluids?
Hey guys,
I finished a coolant flush over the weekend and was curious where other members have disposed of the fluid? I called my local Pep Boys and they only take oil.

Check Walmart, Autozone, Oreilly's, etc. Then try dealerships if that doesn't work.
*EDIT* - Some garbage disposal (trash men) companies take them if you put them out in gallon containers so check with them.

I had a couple gallons of oil and a couple gallons of coolant stored up and finally went to Wal-Mart. I signed in the oil and went to dump it and a minimum wage monkey met me at the "customer no pass line" chain in front of one of the bays. I asked if they took coolant and he just shrugged and said "I'LL take whatever." So they kept my bottles but they also took the coolant off-the-record.

you know it seems strange to me...here its illegal for any stores to take your waste oil or coolant, govn't doesn't trust them and rightfully so. furthermore stores don't want much to do with it.
only option is to take it to the hazardous waste facility. i'm lucky, my town its at the recycling center and its free. i can take anything there and nobody questions
oil, coolant, batteries, waste paint (i bleed some off into a bottle when body painting to make sure the gun is spraying correctly and then to clear it out after i'm done with the reducer)

In New Jersey they don't let you pump your own gasoline. Somehow the rest of us figured out how to do it. Some places have dumb laws. What that says about the legislators and the people who hire them is open for discussion.
If I had to drive to a special site to dispose of coolant I'd do what I do with paint: let the volatiles and water base evaporate, toss what's left in the regular trash. I'd probably put a screen over coolant though, to keep the cats & whatnot from drinking the stuff.

its actually not that bad stocker. every city/town has a site. many have long hours (like the one here) and are even open on weekends. drive it, drop off your sh*t and take off. i just store it all until i have a good load. oil, coolant, solvents, batteries, they take anything.
so do you use some of the higher end car paint? i've been painting a new fender with RM Diamont. that sh*t and the reducer is nasty stuff, toluene and other good sh*t in it. now i'm scrambling to get a new respirator mask since my cartridges died and i can't get new ones for my old mask. FUN TIMES!!

House paint. What's left over after evaporating the light stuff from a latex paint is basically colored rubber.
I also got rid of some paint thinner by letting it stand outside uncovered. The problem solves itself. Toluene, xylene, etc. I think I probably would pick somewhere NOT right next to the house like I use for less nasty stuff.
