Default CAI for 1.5L LC Accent

Well, I got tired of reading all this crap about how you can and can't build your own intake, so I decided to try it myself. I pretty much ripped off the teamdelsol.com DIY guide. I bought some 2.25" mandrel bent pipe from JC Whitney and some rubber connecters from Lowe's. Slapped on a open ended cone filter from eBay and that's it. Quite a bit of cutting involved and using your head, but it wasn't hard at all. Took maybe 5 hours i'd say. The only thing I didn't follow from teamdelsol.com is paint. After reading how beneficial the header wrap is w/ the RSCAI, I figured that would be way better than any silly paint. All in all, i'm definately pleased. The filter is located in the wheel well, just where I would have wanted it so it gets nice, cool air. It makes a beautiful growl and there are noticable power gains. So, I guess i'm posting this just so you know it's not impossible. I don't have any special training or whatever. Just my head, some pipe, and a hacksaw. Have fun, don't cut your arms off. Now all I need is a throttle body from a Tib. All the junkyards around here are queer. I looked at 3 different yards, big ones, and nothing. Oh well. Here are a few pics. ENJOY!

This is before the heat wrap.. doesn't look too special:

Added heat wrap and spray:

Sucks from INSIDE the wheel well! :

Total costs:
Pipe - $25 (JC Whitney)
Rubber Connectors - $15 (Lowe's/Home Depot)
Small filter - $10 (PepBoys)
Big Filter - $25 (eBay)
Header Wrap - $35 (Jeg's)
Sealant for Wrap - $10 (Jeg's)
-------------------------------
Total - $120 +/- a little

thanks everybody for the comments. You guys didn't really do the same as me... at least I don't think so. The filter is actually sitting in the wheel well... so it's nice and protected, but still getting plenty of cool air. All the CAI for the 1.5 i've seen just go down and take it from in front of the tranny. Which is probably perfectly fine, but I just wanted mine tucked away somewhere. My MHP intake that I paid $200 for took the air from next to the tranny.

i know this is a little dated but yes really just like yours running down into the side wheel well in behind the fog lights not infront of the tranny and mines blue!!! tongue.gif tongue.gif moon
