Beginer Performance Upgrades
Hi everyone, I just bought an 01 Accent GSI 1.6L DOHC and I was wondering what are some basic beginner upgrades I could do to make it faster. I know the ultimate thing to lead up to would be swapping in a bigger engine or getting a turbo etc. etc. But I'm kind of financially challenged so I was wondering what are some starter things. For example, should I get cold air intake? Does it really add 10HP? Any help would be appreciated.
Not 100% sure what's available for the 1.6, but generally the baseline mods for any n/a vehicle would be intake/header/catback exhaust. The intake won't give you 10hp although it may "feel" like it. This will greatly improve performance and is a good foundation for any other mods.
dude. keith. why'd you post the same thing twice? haha
but... seriously, he hit the nail right on the head. intake/header/exhaust is the starting point for most who want to mod...
the Accent makes for a GREAT sleeper car if you want to go all out. i'm sure in the archives you can find a lot of helpful information in regards to your car. just do some searching.
http://www.hyundaiperformance.com may be a good site for you also. they have an accent forum there

took me 5 minutes to decide on posting on an old thread, but i would suppose the first mods should go to the brakes and wheels.
1. Brakes n Wheels
2. Suspension setup
Then comes anything else, lighter crank pulley, CAI, BBTB, ECU remap, turbo/super/NOS

Well it all depends on what you're going for. Sounds like you're more interested in cosmetics and ride quality first. That's the way I went as well. All in the modder's preference.

Diggys right. with that. It depends on what your looking for. If you really want to quicken the car up, your going to have to go turbo. I did the I/H/E N/A setup and even when i got it tunned I barely got any power for the money spent. ($500-700) now for twice that you can get your car up and running with a great turbo setup and be 2-5x faster depending on what psi you run and so forth.
Cosmeticly however the options are endless. With the right amount of money you can make your car look like anything!
However there are 2 mods I can think up off the top of my head that no matter what yo decide to do you can countinue to use them:
1. thermal intake spacer. It help alive heat soak in the intake manifold alloing for colder air to enter the chamber.
2. Big bore throttle body. Bigger throttle body = more trq down low and quicker throttle response. if you choose to you can also port your runners to match the IM gasket and that too will add improved trq and response.
Make a game plan and be sure its what you intend to do. Its the best way to save you money and time.
