My brakes have started again. Making a clicking noise when slowing down to stop. If ur hard on the brake no noise is heard. Under normal braking you get this clicking noise. Had this happen before and had to readjust to get it to stop. But always comes back and takes a few times to get rid of the noise. Got new drums and new shoes. Had the drums machined just to make sure they were round. New springs. Adjuster works properly. Adjusted the e-brake too. Found one person that had the same problem on line and they said it was the wheel bearing. It was not making any noise or problems bearing have as they fail but changed them and fixed the problem. Don't know if i want to spend out almost 200$ to see if it fixes it. Know on Hyundais website there is a service bulletin for this problem and have a part to fix it, (A shoe and lining kit assembly). Phoned up Hyundai and they say they have to order it at 70$ but say it is just new shoes. I asked what the lining was and they didn't know. Just that it is shoes. So WTF? Don't know what to do. Does anyone know what this kit is or what could be causing the problem?
Thanks

well if there's a TSB for the problem the dealer should be paying for it. that is hyundai admitting a problem, talk to another dealer.
yes its possible to get some junk in drum brakes causing that but not as likely as disc brakes. i've had trouble in the past where the back dust shields were rubbing on the disc brakes, easy fix there.
very possible that a wheel bearing can go. if that is the case, don't mess around with it. can be dangerous.

Well, shake the wheel, top to bottom, with the corner jacked up. Is the wheel bearing dramatically loose? If not go find a shop that will give a free inspection and see what they think about the bearings.

I jacked up the car and pull the wheel in every direction and I don't notice any movement. Will it be very noticable? When you spin the wheel well it is jacked up, you hear the brakes rub and release, rub and release. Only seemed to be a the top of the drum, in a certain point. Thought the drums where out of round but has done this for over a year and they are new drums. And I have had them machined. It even did this with the old drums on the car. If the tire was out of round due to a belt shifting, could it cause this? Or am I possible looking at a bearing problem? Thought about changing the shoes and spring and drums with new and seeing if I still hear them rub and release. If the shoe and ebrake are adjusted properly you would hear the brakes just slightly rub all around right?
I know that there is the service bulletin for this problem but does that only apply if they are original parts? The shoes are hyundai brand but the drums are aftermarket. But does anyone know what this shoe and lining kit assembly is? What is in it?
Thanks

I had a similar problem on my 96 elantra with rear drum brakes. Instead of clicking it was more of a loud clanking.
The problem was not solved when I cleaned the inside of the drum.
However, it was solved when I replaced the brake shoes. There was an unusual metalic click as I removed the problematic shoe. And I also found the old shoe to be a bit rusted.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar issue.
