stupid "other" sites.....

how much do you need to shim?

any pics?
can i say winter project?
oh! what would be needed for the swap alltogether?

Would i require to grab the rear prop valve off of the elantra/tiburon? do they have a rear prop valve? (done rear disc swaps on the escort and a few other cars, and they all require the rear prop valve to function properly)

i havent done it
but ive got the stuff and its something i need to do

you need the hubs, discs and calipers - the hubs will bolt onto the x3 mounting points

apparently you need to shim out the calipers about 1-2mm, you need new brake hoses and the handbrake should bolt up

you can do it without changing the master cylinder and the prop valve, but you will have a slight trailing on the rears, and the pedal will be softer
this could be kinda fixed by putting a bias valve in the rear lines

some guys here in aus are experimenting with lantra and sonata master cylinder/prop valve setups atm
im waiting on what they come up with before i do anything

Keep me updated on the progress of this project be in on here, a new thread in wheels/braking/ect, or via PM man.

I'll hold off to do this project once i know everything there is to know to do it, as the x3 is the winter car so i cant have it out of comission due to "whoops didnt know i needed that, or whoops.. so that's how it was supposed to be done" lol.

Very interested. Looking forward to hearing more as this turns out!

Hey 342Four, What holds the caliper in place? I had to have brackets made to hold my calipers.

I saw pics of the rear spindle bolting in but the camber was off by a lot, too much to ever drive. The hub can be pressed in, but the caliper bracket won't bolt to the Accent's spindle. At least the US spec rear Accent spindle.

I have never done this myself, but a lot of people here in the US have tried it and come to the conclusion that it does not work without a new caliper mounting bracket being fabricated.

If you have specific model year information, pics, or a DIY on the subject it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not calling you out or anything, just want more info and clarification. An affordable bolt in rear disk swap for Accents is high on the Accent owner's wish list.

I saw in the breakdowns of the elantra and tibs on webtec that showed a bracket that could be unbolted from them that held the caliper. Could never find them at the junkyards though? Also I thought the hub was the round part that held the lugs and bearings?
