Default 2008 auto tranny in 2003 accent gl?

I was wondering if the transmissions were the same. My tranny in my 03 is on it's way out the door and I can't really afford a new tranny, but if it is possible I would like to try and find a salvage tranny out of a newer accent as I would hope they did something to improve the quality on these trannies. The car has 152k on it and it is on the second tranny which btw was replaced brand new from the dealer at around 95k. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

The transmission would bolt to the engine, and might even bolt to the subframe, but I doubt the PCM would be compatible. You should be fine with a transmission from an Accent as new as 2005 though. The only way to find out with a newer trans is to try it.

Thank you for the quick response beercheers.gif . But the only problem with that is that I have to buy the tranny first and then put it in and if it doesn't work I'm out of that money until I can find a buyer for the new tranny and money is kinda tight for me which is why I'm driving an auto accent lol. It's my only car otherwise I would just do a beta swap but I know that would take time and I would have no way to work until the car was finished. Thanks again tho! smile.gif BTW I'm the guy who messaged u on youtube that you gave the address for this forum too.

I'm glad you found your way over here then. smile.gif

Yeah, I would suggest just getting the trans for a 03-05 Accent. It's pretty common to make minor changes as they go, but I haven't heard of any major design changes in the 03-05 Accent auto transmissions. I don't know about where you are but here a low mileage Accent trans goes for about $500 at the most and you can install it yourself in a long day's work. I won't lie it is a pretty miserable job but it's actually not that difficult as long as you rent a transmission jack and use tall jack stands.

Well I changed the fluid and filter yesterday and it made a pretty big difference but I can still tell it's got problems (shifts hard like it has a shift kit). But another question I have is it threw a code for I think it said "trans temp sensor" could that keep my OD from working? Because it's not working. It used to work when the CEL would come on and didn't when it was off but now it don't work at all and it seems my TC is not locking.

Yeah, that can cause a lot of problems. You should replace it or get it replaced.

Thank you. Do you have any clue on the price and difficulty of the job? Also is this a dealer only part?

You might be able to check on webtech. If I can find my shop manual I'll look to see how difficult it is.
