04 just wondering where the fuel pressure regulator is on the 1.6L DOHC engine..looked at the fuel rail and only see the fuel line in.. tried to find it on the hyundai service site and did not..can't find a lot on that site.. where abouts would it be and are they easy enough to tes and replace? Also what is the best way to test if you have a leaking injector?...
Reason for all this is because my car ahs been sucking back the gas for awhile now and the colder weather doesn't seem to be helping...of course..when I start my car after sitting over night the exhaust smells really rich..my oil is smelling of gas too. Thought maybe it was just because its cold or that a sensor was off. Took it to the dealship and all sensors are reading within the specs. If I let my car get cold is doesn't smell as rich as leaving it over night. So thought maybe it was one of the two or both...know it could be wore rings but psi readings are all good..
Thanks for any help

FPR is in the fuel pump/sender/FPR assembly accessible at the top of the fuel tank.
If you're getting blue smoke and hard starting it could be oil leaking around the valve seals. If not, it could be a leaking injector. I would not suspect the FPR for your issues.

just wondering what would cause the rich smelling exhaust in the mornings. That wouldn't be a fuel pressure regulator? The car does turn over a few times before starting. Sometimes while driving the car has power and sometimes the engine seems like it is struggling. Haven't had the car stall but has a little bit of a rough idle. Don't know what would cause this if all the sensor are reading properly. I just want to know where the gas is going. For 9.77 gallons (from full to when the gas light comes on, it take 37 litres to fill) i get 180.2 miles (290 km). I think the conversions are right. Something must be wrong. Compression test shows good compression in each cylinder. Lastly I don't get blue smoke but sometimes looks a little dirt like and find that my oil level does go down on the course of 3 months. The car has 133 000 km (82642 miles) on it. Wish I could afford another car.
What is the easiest way to check for a leaking injector?
Thanks for any advice.

Are you sure it's the exhaust smelling rich vs. a gas leak somewhere?
18MPG is low but not unreasonable for extended idling or all-city driving.
What looks like dirt?
1 quart in 3000 miles is "normal" oil consumption, not to be sweated.

I've never gotten less than 25mpg in an Accent no matter how much city driving or idling I had done. It would have to be a really excessive amount to justify that.
You could send in your injectors to get cleaned and rebuilt if you can handle your car being out of service for a week or so.
I'm also concerned that your cat may be clogged as some of your symptoms seem to match that. The mileage, no CEL, and idling issues could all possibly be due to that. A decent shop can check exhaust system backpressure for you.

Possibly leaking fuel injectors? If it is dribbling fuel into your cylinder overnight, the car will be hard to start and smell rich. Pull your spark plugs and see if any of them are wet.

I am sure it is rich smelling exhaust and not a gas leak.
The exhuast looks dirty. Can't really describe it. Only every once and awhile. Doesn't look like normal exhaust in the cold. It has black or bronwish hue to it.
Could it be a clogged cat if the loss of power is only every now and then? As well the idle is bad sometimes. Thought it would be constant.
So more likely it is a leaking fuel injector and not the fuel pressure regulator? Could that explain the loss of power sometimes and rough idle?
Lastly, is it best to check the spark plugs before starting the car in the morning to see if they are wet or does it not matter?
Thanks

Get this...I wanted to see if my fuel injectors were leaking as the car sat over night..so I want to drain the fuel from the injectors, fuel rail, and fuel line...since it is warmer here now thought that if I left the car with no fuel then it would smell so rich in the morning if it were a leaking injector or bad fuel pressure regulator...that being said i removed the fuel pump fuse and ran the car...over 5 minutes and the car was still running, not well, went to stall a few times but kept going....know that is not right so WTF? What could cause that to happen?
Thanks

If your car still runs for minutes after you pull the fuse, you will want to make sure the pump is indeed losing power when the fuse is out. If the pump can get volts from somewhere besides that fused line, you are riding in a fireball waiting to happen.

ok so I tried it again....only this time it worked..the car didn't start. I pulled each spark plug so see if they we wet and all were dry. I started the car 4 hours later and the exhaust still smelt rich. That being said I had taking the car to get the real time data and everything ran within specs. So what does the car rely on to determine gas for when the car is cold. When the car is warm the exhaust smells normal, unless I took it out for a spin, in which case, the exhaust smell like rotten eggs. So any ideas, don't believe its the injector or fuel pressure regulator any more. Lastly after the drive i removed the fuel pump fuse again and gas cap and tried starting the car..It started and again wouldn't stall, almost but wouldn't after 20 seconds. I shut the car off and tried restarting and the car almost did but didn't. Tried 5 times and all the same. A good thing since the fuse was removed. But don't understand why it wouldn't stall out and then just not start. Also the second time I removed the fuse and the car didn't start, u could just hear the start spin, this last time the car would actual go to start. So don't know what the hell is going on.
Thanks
