Default Whats wrong with my Engine?

Just a couple of days ago I noticed that my car under full throttle the RPM's would rise normally and then speed to redline( for example: I hit the gas and the car starts off fast going from 2000 to 3 and then just jumping to 5500-65 causing me to shift prematurely). What is the deal with that? I havent been able to find a problem...I must say though that when it does bump like that it seems like it is accelerating faster than I remember. could it be a fuel prob or chip prob?

From what it sounds like...you have one of two problems. Clutch slippage. Or wheel slippage.

Does the speedo jump when the tach needle jumps? If so, it is wheel slippage.

if the speedo needle stays constant or only goes up slightly, but the tach jumps...then it is clutch slippage.

Yeah, the speedo jumps too, but it is like some sort of overdrive like in a automatic. Thanks for your help Random, I guess I need a limited slip diff.

Like an overdrive?????

I think you need to explain the problem again. Manual trannies don't shift on their own.

If the Tach and Speedo stay linked in motion, then the problem is wheelspin.

If the problem only happens in first gear (maybe second)...it's wheel spin.

If the problem happens in 5th gear...it's clutch/transmission.

Yeah, don't forget wheels can spin silently.

Im sayin that it acts like an auto overdrive, sorta like when an auto swithches to its lowest gear out of a high gear for maximum lift off, my car when I hit the gas rises and then(like an auto) SPEEDS TO REDLINE like a Vtec switch over...I dunno sorry, but I guess it is a little hard to explain. My car feels like it starts off in a high gear say 3rd and then switches to 1st.

well, if you have a 5 speed manual, then it sounds like you are getting wheelspin.

Try being a tad lighter on the gas leadfoot! tongue.gif
