Default weird wiper linkage / motor issues

Hey folks,

The windshield wiper linkage rusted out in my '98 tib, I replaced it with one I found at a boneyard in pristine condition, and I went ahead and replaced the motor while I was at it. Worked great for about a week.

Now, the motor won't function unless I dramatically loose the sole nut holding the linkage onto the motor stem. If I tighten it down too tight, the motor won't move at all, but if I loosen it to the point where it does work, it'll swipe the wipers 4-5x, then the bolt works itself so loose it quits working that way too.

Did my brand new pump die? Did I accidentally bind up the linkage? If I disconnect the linkage from the motor, I can work it with my hand manually, and watch the wiper studs move back and forth, so I don't think it's a binding issue (right?), but the motor is also brand new, so I'm not sure it's at fault either.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Use red loctite on the bolt in the "works but eventually falls apart" position?

Perhaps you're missing a washer between the nut and the motor arm?

is there supposed to be a washer there? that's what I was thinking too, the service manual shows there being a washer there, but on my original assembly, and the replacement assembly, there wasn't one. I was thinking about adding one.

And I tried loctite, still vibrated/worked it's way loose, surprisingly.
