I have a 2007 accent with 38,000 miles. Just recently it has started malfunctioning on me. Before a 3 hour drive, I stopped at Walmart for supplies. When I got back to my car, it wouldn't start. Wouldn't even turn over. Walmart checked the battery, it was fine. There was a lot of corrosion on the connectors though. They cleaned it off, jumped me, and I drove the three hours. When I got to my destination, I stopped, checked into my hotel. I restarted the car and drove around to where my room was. After a few hours, I went to my car and again it was dead. It needed to be jumped in order to start again. Again there was a lot of corrosion on the battery connectors. When I got home I cleaned the connectors extremely well and purchased some anticorrosion lube for the connectors. My car worked fine for a few weeks, but now it is happening again. My car will stop intermittently for no reason, during short trips where it starts originally. If it sits for more than a week without being driven the battery has no charge. What is going on?

 

I had the same problem with my wife's 07 Accent. I tried to chase down the problem because the garage said the battery and alt were fine. I never found the problem. I finally decided to change the battery just for the hell of it. Problem never happened again. It's a bad cell inside the battery.

Count yourself lucky if it's the original battery. The Solite brand battery on the RD platform from Korea was good for 2 years TOPS. Go to an auto parts store that has a tester which measures current capacity of a battery. Yours will probably be low. If it IS the original battery and you have any starting or charge retention problems, just know it's time for a battery replacement by now anyway, that's how long they last.

 

The battery in my 2004 Accent was original to the car (Solite brand) and worked great. It was in the car when I sold it 2 weeks ago.

 

Hi everybody, and thanks for your input. It isn't the original battery, that went about a year and a half ago. This is going to be hard. I have searched and searched, and even asked a Toyota mechanic. They say, if it doesn't happen in front of them, there is no way to test what is going on. He thought it might be a short in the control module that controls the power locks and windows. Again, the mechanic said that there is no tester for this.

 

There is a bad cell in your battery. The symptoms you described are EXACTLY what was happening to my wife's car. She would be out shopping and the car would start fine 2 or 3 times in a row and then just die at the next store. Boost it and it would start up and be fine for a day or two, sometimes a week. Then just die again for no reason out of the blue. Everything tested fine at the dealership when we brought it in. The battery needs to be replaced.

 

It sure sounds like you know what you are talking about. I will take your advice and get a new battery. I will report afterwards. If this does work, I thank you soooo much from the bottom of my heart!
