wheel_of_steel, i've already done swapping the crank. i even bought a new one (cheaper here hehe) just to be sure. the only culprit left is the ECU really. sucks but that's life. i really miss driving my tib argh.
stocker, shouldn't have the fuse stopped the damage to the ECU?
anyway, any thoughts on the cam and ECU swap? think it makes sense?

ECU swap is pretty easy. I had a DIY way back when, nothing more than about 4 bolts (1 is pretty hard to get at) and the plug.
What brand TPS do you have? Dae Sung = replace. Kiefco = OK.

Even on a 12V car, you can get thousands of volts through the wires when a wire carrying current is disconnected. The low voltage/high current suddenly turns into high voltage almost zero current and ZAP. As the current flowing is tiny, a fuse is going to be useless, depending on the potentials involved. Usually you'll be fine. Sometimes you need to get a junkyard ECM and a couple sensors.

The ecu feeds the tach, not the ignition wiring.
check your power to the ecu first, also check that your alternator isn't dumping 20+ to the rest of the car...

stocker, thanks for the info! i'll keep this in mind.
300D50, the tachometer needle jumps around when i turn the key. the speedometer needle also used to do this. is this any indication that the ECU is actually busted?
I'll confirm the alternator check by tomorrow.
again, thanks for all the input guys

argh, this is beginning to get really overwhelming lol
i'll try to squeeze in as much info as i can and see what else i observe with the tib..
Found some brand new ECUs from local distributors here and they're asking for a king's ransom for it. they'll import from Korea if ever. i might have better luck using ebay. anybody have trusted sellers in their list?
300, what's a VSS and does "electrical system" actually mean having to dissect harnesses and electrical lines?

Vss= vehicle speed sensor
Kinda hard to say what needs to be dissected or looked at, I'd wait for the second/third opinions of the list first.

Where are you from? In the US, you can usually find a 1.8L ECU from a junk yard for well under $100, if not $50. I was finding some 2.0L ones for only about $25 or so, just to test. You could probably even ask around here; someone's bound to have one.

i'm in the Philippines where the RD1 is incredibly rare. i can't find any ECUs in the surplus shops. i'm currently looking at sourcing from you guys or on ebay actually.
with that out of the way, does anybody have a 2.0l ECU lying around i can use? correct me if i'm wrong but the 1.8 ECU would also work? no difference in performance, etc? i've read that it'd work well with a 1.8 cam as well.
