shifting VERY difficult
YAY!!! good news
I was able to shift at 6k rpm today
WOO HOO
it could have been dumb luck, since about 6 min later i couldint shift at 5k rpm suicide
i still feel that block
{better discription of problem.... try shifting to first at 30 mph... that block you feel is that same block i feel going into 2nd from first at high rpm while racing}
Im going to change the oil in 2 weeks with some redline
IM HOPING
it will go away by then... i want to spray my last bottle of nitrous till summer

Oh.. JAWS01
I just had a thought.
You said you have an XD tranny.
Well...the XD tranny have that new shift base plate. Its white instead of black.
Maybe. The new shifter moves the control in a different matter. And so when you try to use you black based shifer. Its not moving far enough. or in the right direction. to allow the syncros to meet up properly.

Hey that sounds very feasible that the XD tranny requires a different range of motion than the old cable linkage so while shifting with the old base plate you don't line up the synchros enough....
I like that theory shadohh! it's good that we have creative thinkers on our message board!

****.... i need to get a hold of an XD so i can check out that shifter...
i got the SR shifter now... i wonder how much different it is
Maybe adjusting the cables will make things better... should i tighten or loosen?
wait...
the brackets that hold the clutch cables are the same...
the weights are slightly different,... but in the same place
Why would the shifter matter?
If anything it should be the cables... so maybe some adjusting would fix her up

I really don't think it is the cables or the shifter. The car goes into every other gear just fine. It goes into second gear just fine, after the RPMS drop. It's got to be syncro's or some kind of blockout in the tranny. On the only occasion you've mananged to "force" it into second gear above 4000 RPM, it ground....that says syncro's or some kind of a block.
into first?
i dunno....
i can try...
That first gear block might prevent me from doing that (normal... all trannies have this)
I have been able to shift into 2nd gear at around 5k rpm...
the problem seems to slowly be getting better... but im still worried
im going to try to tighten the cables... hoping it will help things
I got about a month and a half left of warranty... so ill see
Gears still feel sticky though... sometimes on the way to third too
Im going to try adding some redline and see how the tranny improves
The tranny will be race worthy in 2 weeks like it or not... if it gives out,... ill take a cheap 98 tranny at the yard

I have bad syncros on 2 and 3. 3 is really bad and I can feel your "block" when I try to shift into it hard.
Double clutching helps (for those that don't know, it's clutch-> shift to neutral ->release and re-clutch->shift to 3rd). In fact, it's been bad for so long, I double clutch 2nd to 3rd without thinking.
2 just seems a little tight, but no "block" in the motion.
I want to swap out the syncros and upgrade my clutch, but again: time and money rolleyes.gif
good luck,
