I serrioulsy doubt it is your flywheel. When you push in the clutch to engage gears, the flywheel is out of the equation.

It sounds like your cables are either bent, or your syncro's are going inside your tranny. That "nasty noise" you are hearing is the syncro's grinding teeth. That is NOT A GOOD THING.

Try this trick. Push in the clutch as normal. the start to release the cluch JUST a LITTLE BIT, and try GENTLY sliding into the next gear. By releasing the clutch a tad, that will allow the syncros/gears to spin a bit, and as you slide the shifter into that gear...they should "mesh" together with no grinding.

If that does solve your problem...the problem is with the gears/syncro's in your tranny, not the shifter, clutch, pressure plate or flywheel.

Push in your clutch to fully disengage the the gear, go to neutral, then slightly engage the clutch to move to the next gear.

The spring in the shifter just there for "re-centering" the gear shift. It does not affect gear throws to have that there or not. Your tranny will work find without it.

If one of your cables is slack...that could be causing the problem, unfortunatly, there are no cable adjustments for the tibby.
