I just got my '01 Tibby back from my mechanic and my check engine code is P1124. It showed up during the summer when I was sitting at a drive-thru, and he told me that he had been seeing that code a lot because we had a very humid summer (I live in PA), and told me to bring my car back if my check engine light comes back on. Well, it did and it's throwing the same code. He told me it was a long term fule trim - too lean. I've searched around on the site and only found one topic dealing with it (the P1124 code), and I'm thinking I should start with running a fuel system cleaner and then my O2 sensors like the topic said? I'm not entirely sure? Anything that is fairly common with this issue that I should look into first?



Also, my air bag light is on. Are there any common issues with that or should I just take it straight to the dealership to deal with that? I need to get both of these issues figured out because my inspection is due soon.

 

the O2 sensor could be getting wet/damp. The CEL comes on in my Accent once in a while but always goes out after the car warms up.

 

I have the same code. Have you replaced your first O2 sensor?



Also, I would like to note that if you're replacing your O2 sensors, always replace with a Hyundai brand sensor.



Yes the airbag light is a frequent issue with Tiburons. It has to do with the seatbelt plug. If it has been unplugged before, it will throw the light. I'm not sure why there was never a recall on that. There should have been. I never bothered with it b/c it costs $90 for them just to plug in their diagnostic scanners, but your airbag will not release when the light is on.

 

Check your local regulations. In Texas, the airbag light is not an inspectable part of the annual "safety" inspection.

 

My airbag light is also on. Are you saying that I MIGHT be able to get it off simply by having a Hyundai dealership scan and reset it?

 

I also have an OBX exhaust on my car if that makes anything different?



I will try the O2 sensor first.

Do you have a catalytic converter somewhere? If not, then the code won't go away.

 

Yeah, I do. It's a cat back exhaust, it's this: OBX Exhaust

 

Remove your first sensor and shake it to see if the ceramic inside has been burnt out or broken. The rear one should be fine. I can't really think of what else would throw it off except for a leak or crack somewhere in the exhaust system.
