Default My car is dead

Well i was driving home from school and my car started bogging at a red light so i pulled into a parking lot and then the car just shut off on me. I checked a few things and i don't think it is the fuel pump cause with the key to the on position i hear a noise coming from near the fuel rail so i am gonna assume that the pump os working. Anyone got any ideas on what it could be??
Thanks in advance

Does your battery have a charge? But my bet is on the alternator maybe. First check to see if you have a charge in your battery if you don't it is dead but you need to find out why. Charge it up and see if it holds a charge like if charge it 12 volts check it in a hour and if it drops off your battery is deap cycled and you need to get a new one. Ok say you have went threw all of this and the battery is good start your car and drive it around the block a few times if after awhile your lights start to dim and the car starts to bog I'll bet $100 bucks it's the alternator now keep in mind when you first check your battery it still might be dead if the alternator is bad cause the car sucks the power from the battery and if the alt is bad their is nothing to recharge the battery so don't think right off the bat if the battery is dead thats the problem follow the steps I gave you. But still the best step is if your car is under warranty take it to the dealer that is what their there for but still my bet is on either the battery or alternator and if the alternator went bad their might be a chance both are shot but follow the steps and you will be able to tell what the problem is. Sorry for the post but I wanted to clearly explain.

My lights didn't dim or anything like that. I can still play the radio and turn on the lights and everything. So i don't think its the battery being dead. I don't know a great deal about cars but would the alternator cause the car to die right in front of my eyes will it's running?? Im dumbfounded as to what it could be. I tried to change the fuel filter to see if maybe that was it but i can't get it off and don't want to break anything. So it looks like i gotta get it towed to the dealership, miss a day of school doing this and hope they can look at it before thanksgiving.

Yes an alternator can kill your car right in front of your eyes but their is a breakdown process before it happens sometimes you notice it sometimes you don't. If your battery is still charged then it's not the alternator. Will it turn over/crank? and if it starts how long does it run before it dies? Also check your fuses one could have blown and could have caused this problem. Let me know.

It turns over and all that stuff but it just won't start. Its gonna be going to the dealer as soon as the can look at it, so i will let you know what was wrong with it.

Well it was the timing belt that broke. Didn't do any other damage though which is good. Thanks for all the help.
Peace

Sorry that should have been my first suggestion since it runs the Alt but the simplest things you always forget but I'm glad to hear you got it fixed.
