Default help got tick

ok just as im planning turbo
on my way home today i here a faint tick
so i think rock in the tire
but then i stop at a light and when i take off its ticking to the engine not speed

So i cant figure this one out it sounds like lifter (i hope) but the sound is coming from the timing belt cover or alternator side area not the valve cover
and i pull the plugs to look at them and one was white
any thoughts

thanks

long time no see man...

Well white usually means your burning oil

Try to do a compression test

The tick could be a lifter

Use engine flush... nitrous people get this A LOT

i just started getting this with my 5k engine (i spray a lot)

Motor Flush doesn't always work the first time. Do it again after 3000 miles. If that STILL doesn't do the trick, you might have a partially collapsed HLA, or and injector that is partially clogged and is "knocking" loudly.

Pop the hood and rev the car a little...IF the tick speeds up its an HLA...

What motor flush did you use?

I tried Eagle One Motor Flush and that sucked.

Then I tried GUNK And that Did 10x a Better job.

I also changed from regular oil to a Semi Synthetic.

I have yet to hear a tick. not even when I turned it on while it was encased in 20 inches of snow.

And I use to get them all the time, cold start up, high rpm shifting.

I Used the gunk flush
it does speed up with rpm but does not really get
louder just faster
and i also thought dirty injector after pulling plug and seeing white so i used injector cleaner
but have not drove the car since becuase it is fairly loud buts it more of a tick than a knock sound
i also tried a stethiscope but can not pin point
it it really bugs because it sounds like
its coming from the alternator area
i also took the belts off and still was there
gonna look at it again when i get off work

Injector tick would also speed up as RPM's increase.

Try using the mechanics sethascope on the bolts that hold the intake and exhaust manifolds on. If you can't pinpoint it with that, start slowly moving the stethascope around the top of the valve cover.

If it DOES sound like it's coming from the area of the alternator, that's probably the water pump or oil pump. NOT GOOD!!! Test both with the stethascope and see what you find out. (you can only get to the oil pump from underneath the car...PITA).
